Hi all! I've been overweight since being put on medication 6.5 years ago. No matter what I eat or exercise I can't seem to shift more than 2 lbs. I weighed myself yesterday and have discovered I am the heaviest I've ever been. So I'm giving this a go. It's had so many great write-ups.

Welcome Lala, medication can make it difficult to maintain a healthy weight. Have you asked you GP for help? Perhaps you can be referred to a dietitian? Either way, the 12 week plan is really great, so give it a go!

Have a look at the welcome newbies post under pinned posts on the right to learn more about using this forum and join us for weekly Monday weigh-in if you feel like it.

All the best.

Thank you. I was under the nhs health trainers a couple of years ago and I lost a few pounds so they discharged me. I guess my mind wasn't fully into it as I put on a significant amount of more weight. I'm determined this time though!

Hi I am a newbie too. I am also the heaviest I have ever been but for different reasons. Mostly comfort eating with me. I would discuss this with your GP. Good luck. We can do this!

Welcome Lala073,

As you're on medication it may be best you seek advice from your GP first. They should be able to give lots of information that will make all the difference on your journey to a new slim you.

I have always found its useful to write everything down and just watch your portion size. It's amazing how the calories can add up.

There's always someone here when you need a bit of moral support.

Good luck x

Thank you. I have spoken to both my gp and consultant and although they said I am overweight, it's apparently nothing to worry about as there are bigger people out there! Digusted! This is why I'm doing it on my own x

Welcome to the group, Lala073 . Have you asked your doctor about counting your carbs for each meal?

Please check out the Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation for the free leaflets on "A Healthy Diet and Diabetes" and "Exercise and Diabetes". All leaflets can be downloaded, read and/or listened to at anytime. Please go to: drwf.org.uk/diabetes-leaflets

I hope this helps. If you have any questions, feel free to go ahead and ask anytime.

Thank you. I am at risk of developing diabetes and my brother also had it so I will certainly take a look at those suggestions.

Hi, I was diagnosed with diabetes about 6 years ago.

Two years nine month ago I started going to Slimming World, I have now lost six stone and reversed my diabetes.

I am on a lot of medication, but have now been able to reduce my diabetes meds by 2/3, they just keep me on 1 tablet a day as a maintenance dose for my heart and kidneys. Medication for high blood pressure I've reduced by 3/4, all this through having a knee replacement done in March 2015.

Slimming World is one of the best things I've done in my life, should I ever stop going I think I'd put a lot of the weight back on again. As our consultant tells us, its not a diet, it's a change of life. There are meetings all over if you decide to try it out.

Not what you're looking for?
