Losing 1lb is a great result Yan and nothing to be worried about
As you've lost a fabulous 1st 5lbs, I was wondering if you'd like a 1st badge, to give you a bit of a boost and maybe encourage you to try a little harder for your 2 stone badge?
Congratulations upon what you’ve achieved thus far, Yan.
Although you’ve had a bit of an off-week, you’re still headed in the right direction. Granted, you may have lost more in previous weeks, but don’t view the 1lb loss as a disappointment.
If you consulted weight loss calculators at the start of your journey, bear in mind that as the body weighs less, fewer calories need to be consumed on a daily basis in order to satisfy BMR. Moreover, by re-evaluating BMR with each stone lost, you’ll reduce the risk of a dreaded plateau.
As you consume fewer calories on a daily basis, don’t worry about how a resulting increase in the level of activity may affect weight loss, since (at your current weight) the body still has more than enough calories (stored in existing levels of fat) to fuel the increased endeavour.
Once you draw closer to your goal weight, however, on the assumption that you remain active and have become considerably fitter/stronger, (depending upon type and intensity of exercise), calorie intake may need to increase beyond BMR.
Although the margin between BMR and TDEE will be tighter, so long as you’re consuming fewer calories than is required to satisfy TDEE weight will still be lost, albeit a little slower than earlier on in your journey.
Equally, as you grow closer towards goal weight (10-15lbs or so away), by making small weekly increments in calorie consumption towards TDEE (50Kcal per day), you’ll be better placed to maintain your goal weight once it’s reached.
As much as you need to reduce daily calorie intake at the beginning to create a deficit, you also need to increase calorie consumption (ensuring it doesn’t exceed TDEE) at the journey’s end, so that the body continues to give up those final few pounds, in addition to ensuring that it has sufficient energy to sustain daily endeavour, particularly if resistance training and HIIT cardio have become part of your exercise regime, for example.
For now, though, simply concentrate upon maintaining a daily calorie deficit (preferably 500Kcal) and gradually increasing your level of daily activity, to ensure that the figure upon the scales continues to move in the direction that you want it to.
Must be something in the air as I have lost focus this week too. Fantastic that you still managed a 1lb loss and have had a great loss overall. Great that you have picked yourself up and got back on track. Please send some of your positive energy my way! Have a great week too
Thanks for sending some positive energy - not sure it is working yet. You are so right that it is a gentle marathon and it is also so easy to forget how much we have lost already. So thank you for reminding me of that. Hope your week is going ok?
