The 12 week plan is the best place to start (on the nhs website) the bmi checker there will tell you how many calories to eat. Also a calorie counting app (myfitnesspal) really makes it alot easier. Good luck to you x x You deserve a healthy life. Forget the past, just make one good food decision after another, baby steps x x look forward to seeing your posts x

Hi and welcome Lizzy :)

First of all, dry those tears and put a smile on your face. You've taken the first step towards the new, healthy you and from here on in, things will get easier :)

Take a look at the Pinned Posts section, to the right of your screen (bottom, if you're using a mobile) and have a look at the Welcome Newbies thread, it has a link to the NHS 12 week plan, which is a guide to healthy living, rather that a specific diet plan.

Consider joining any, or all, of our challenges, as they're fun and motivating.

Join us for the monday group weigh-in, which I shall be posting today, but which Zest will be posting in future. The latest thread can always be found in the events section, to the right of the home page.

Wishing you all the very best :)

Don't cry. You've come to the right place for help. The support is phenomenal. No matter whether you have gained or lost there will always be members to applaud you, cheer you up and offer sound advice when you are in despair. You can do it . Be it fast or slow, and believe me my losses have been slow, you will get there if you stick with it☺️

I've realised that it doesn't matter how much weight you need to lose, because to us all, our own journey is just as hard as everyone else. So we are all in this together. My weight loss journey is a slow one but it hasn't put me off, its still a loss, and I don't want to feel as though I am on a diet, more that it's a new way of life. So please don't cry, you ve found us, and we are all here for each other. Good luck x

Welcome fellow traveler.

The thing that makes this site a little different is we as not here to use weight loss as a means to take your money. We are here to help and give support and receive it. There are diet plans but the truth is this is a way to live the rest of your life so you must find a way to live that is sustainable and enjoyable for the next 20 plus years or you will be condemning yourself to yo yo weight loss/gain and all the negative feeling that go with it.

All the above suggestions are the way to go. You will have setbacks so now while you feel empowered is the time to think of ways to tackle them.

Some people take each day as the start of their new life and they only have to sustain it till tomorrow, a bit like Groundhog Day, that way it's not so scary. Plan your meals in advance then forget about food, your sorted, that way you are not constantly thinking about the next meal. Buy only what you plan to eat. Use myfitness to help you. Pick a 'good' day and clean out your cupboards, anything you don't want and is still in date take to the food bank, bin the rest. Same with the fridge empty it and give it a good scrub out. Put things like mayo and cheese at the back or the fridge and carrot sticks at the front. Put a jug or decanter of water in the fridge to chill. Drink this in a fancy glass so that it is a 'treat' .

think about what you can do when you feel down etc rather than eat. Do a search on this site, you should find ideas and advice. It is always kind.we are all with you on this journey, welcome and good luck.

Hi and welcome. 💜 forget the scale numbers, I know how you feel on19th May I braved the scales it read 17.1 like you I cried, stood in shock then got angry at myself and joined this forum which I found by accident on the net and have never looked back.

You have had lots of advice already so give it a go the 12 week plan is so easy to do.

Remember it is not where you start it's where you finish👍 make yourself small goals, post on here your success, ask for advice, we can all do this together. I can't believe how different it is on the forum as I have yo yo' for many years on/off went the weight this is a lifestyle change and suddenly you make better choices don't get me wrong it isn't easy will power required but take it slow, there's no rush you have the rest of your life to loose however much you wish.

Good Luck GO FOR IT!!!!!! Bev

You're doing so well already! You've come onto this website, which is ace for supporting people in their healthy journey.

I know where you're coming from, after having my 3 boys, I put weight on, lost it, then changed to a more sedentary lifestyle (going back to an office job, instead of running around after 3 lively lads) and put all the weight back on plus a bit more for good measure.

I have just started out on my healthy weight loss path, so quite a way to go yet - but it is working. I know there will be some bad days along the way, but we can get through them and put them behind us and focus on the positives.

Good luck!

Good luck Lizzy. It's a pound or two at a time that's all you need to focus on. I am 62 and thought it was too late I have managed nearly two stone in two months. I have set Christmas Day as a target date. I Gave up beer and wine . I eat well but only healthy foods and lots of fruit and vegetables.i am swimming and cycling when I can as my knees are shot now. Drink lots of water. Do it for you Liz and your health and well being. Stay focused. As it comes off you sleep better you have more energy and you feel happier. Please stick at it. Stay busy if you feel hungry enjoy feeling hungry because you know it's working X
