Hello, it's day1 for me today and I'm really excited. I'm 66 and pretty active but the weight has piled on and I feel like an over-stuffed armchair. I'm married but have spent the last several years caring for my elderly parents. Now they have gone, I want to wear nice clothes, look as good as I can and get fitter. I have been comfort eating and worse, enjoying too many "comfort" glasses of wine - always manage to find an excuse. I am fully in support of the other newbies and look forward to starting this adventure. Thank you.

Hi, I've replied to your other post, but just wanted to say, very well done for caring for your parents 😊 also, check out the 'newbies' post in the pinned posts section on the right hand side of the screen to get you started. Good luck!
Hi Tryphenia,
Welcome to the NHS weight loss community. I'm glad you're feeling excited at the start of your weight loss journey! That's such a good feeling to start with, and should help to spur you on and motivate you! I'd recommend having a read through of our Welcome Newbie post - you can find it in the Pinned Posts area, which is the top right-hand-side of the homepage.
Also, we have a weekly Monday weigh-in group, which is going on at the moment. Here is a link if you'd like to have a look, and see if you might want to join us:

I'm sure other Newbies will say 'hello' and also existing members too - it's a friendly and supportive community, and I hope you'll enjoy being part of it.
In the Pinned posts area, there are numerous Challenges going on, so do join in with anything you like the look of, and if you click on 'view more' you'll see a Recipe Collation post towards the bottom, which is full of great recipes and meal ideas from existing members.
Enjoy your week - I'd recommend the NHS 12 week plan, as it's a really good plan. Easy to follow and many of us have had great results using it.

Hi Caz, thank you very much. As you can tell, I'm new to forums and don't know what I'm doing hence the two posts.
Hi Tryphenia, Welcome, I'm only 1 week into the 12 week plan, and am also partial to a glass of wine or two, but managing to resist so far! I have been overwhelmed with all the support on here - Everyone is so friendly and encouraging. Good luck on your journey. xx
It's very hard looking after elderly parents and you don't need anything on top to worry about I've been there and I so understand
A new start now and "you time" Good luck I wish you all the very best, sure you will look beautiful and feel great

Hello. Sounds like you've not had an easy few years and I'm not surprised that eating and drinking became a comfort to you.
Sadly I lost my parents in my teens so can only imagine the challenge of caring for elderlies. However I do know about "comfort wine " , which I too relied on in my fifties, through a divorce and then my kids leaving home .
I am now 64 and until two years ago I was 2 stone overweight. Then, like you I decided to face it head on and slowly, steadily I lost my spare 30 lbs.. Ive since maintained it for sixteen months and can honestly say I feel ten years younger.
You will too, just follow the healthy eating advice on here, get moving a bit more, and slowly your weight will drop!
Good luck - lots of us on here to cheer you on 😁
