Feeling overwhelmed, but I have todo this!

I'm a 34 year old female and weigh 21 stone 3. I have no known related health issues, but feel like that's luck. I think my weight is shameful and disgusting and can't look at myself in the mirror. I hate this.

I have 3 children and want to be fit and healthy to give them the best me I can for as long as I can.

I always attempt to eat healthy but I think I'm obsessed with food- I think about it a lot and my particular downfalls are chocolate and real butter and cheese, coupled with portion size- I can eat more than hubby :(

The calorie counting thing is scary to me too :/

I don't do exercise either!

Hello and welcome, you have come to the right place, a supportive and really friendly community that help each other. An admin will give you all the info about this site soon. There have been inspirational weight losses and lifestyle changes by people on here. Take it slowly making small changes at first, takes a long time to learn better habits and a new lifestyle but so worth it and your family will benefit too. Wishing you the best of luck!

Please don't feel ashamed or disgusted, the number on the scales does not define who you are. You have a loving family and a body that has served you well. You have taken the first step towards a new you 😊

Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for ☺

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page ☺

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. Hi, it can be overwhelming to start something new but you've made a great start joining us😊 everyone one is really supportive.

I also have 3 little ones I want to be healthy for,

Like you I love chocolate but have cut sugar from my diet (it makes me fall asleep!!)

I still have real butter can't stand spreads but I only have toast 2 days a week so think it's alright! 😊

and don't think of your weight as discussing and shameful, it's something you have to overcome, there was a reason you put it on, and now wanting to be healthy and happy and around for your little ones is a great reason to lose it 😀💓

Definitely don't run yourself down. You're a wonderful person who just wants to get healthier.

Like you said, trying to do everything at once can seem overwhelming. It's already been said that making small changes and letting them become a part of what you do is the way forward. Look to achieve small goals perhaps such as getting below 21 stone.

Welcome to the forum. I am losing weight for my wedding despite the fact that my fiancé and I haven't set a date for our wedding yet. I am currently following Slimming World but weighing in at my mum's house instead of going to the meetings because I am in the process of moving and saving for my wedding. I have lost 7 1/2lbs in the last 5 weeks. I love the forum and I appreciate the support that I get from other forum members as well as family and friends.

Please don't think badly of yourself, congratulate yourself instead. You have made the best move possible. This forum is do supportive and helpful.

If chocolate is your thing try the Lindt 99% cocoa chocolate, it is delicious, bit of an acquired taste if you are not used to it but I don't eat any other chocolate now (one small twix in past 6months). One square is usually enough.

Butter and cheese are not really the enemy, portion size. Of them maybe.

I have found it important to cut out processed foods as there is so much sugar and sugar substitutes hidden in them to give them the taste they lose when taking out the fat.

Reduce sugar ad much as possible, look at labels.

Most of all make food your friend not your enemy and enjoy the journey of making a lifestyle change. Don't think about it as a diet. Your husband and children will benefit too!

What a huge 1st step you have made, 💐💐💐

I have LOTS of weight to loose and with the help on here and the NHS bmi web site and logging what I eat on the My Fitness Pal free app, I'm down by near!y 1 1/2 stone. If it's a help I started by still having big portions but of healthier choices.

I've now started to drop portion size and introduce small amounts of higher calorie foods.

It does take a while to get you head around this but there is always lots of support here, no matter how daft you may think a question is or how long it takes to get to grips with your new way of healthy eating.
