Hoping support will help!

Hi, I've just signed up. I'm 67 and have to lose 2 & 1/2 stone - something that feels incredibly daunting! I'm hoping that not feeling alone in this will help as I've failed so many times.

Hello Chas6. You and I are in the same age group, I'm 65, so I know how daunting this is. I want this to be my last diet - there have been so many before. My grandson is getting married next year and I want to look and feel better than I do now in time for the wedding.

Welcome to the forums and I hope you get what you need from them. Jayne x

Thanks, Jayne. I used to have no problems with putting on weight but as I hit my 60's it's crept up on me. I have knee problems and my specialist has said I have to get back down to 10 stone. I love walking and have two very active dogs so they're the best reason in the world to do it this time! Like you, I want to get the weight off, and keep it off. Keep in touch! x

Hi Chas6 and welcome! I have never felt alone here and feel like I could never have lost the 16 pounds I have without this place! the people here are wonderful, they are easy to talk to and all have been or are where we are now. I am 49 and want to lose another 50 pounds (not sure what that is in stones as I am from Texas) but there it is. I try not to think of it like that, but only like a way of eating that will be with me from now on. it is a healthy and nice way of eating with lots of veggies and fruit and lower on the carbs. the dr. told me the other day that I am pre-diabetic which I guess means I need to watch my sugar intake and carbs as well. so here I am. a huge bread eater trying not to eat as much bread and sugar. I am really good at pumping up others, but have a tendency to fall myself. someone wrote in another post to take time for yourself. I forget to do that and let myself go sometimes. but I feel better and stronger since I lost the 16 pounds and am determined once again to lose more and get healthy! good luck to you and if you need to talk, I am here!

Thanks, Katy! I certainly will need to chat as I find this so hard and then beat myself up for being so bad at sticking to a weight loss plan. I lived in the US for twelve years until 2012 in Los Angeles and found it much easier to keep the weight off there - I've never been a cake and cookie girl, luckily, but things like cheese etc are my weakness! You sound like you're doing really well, so congratulations!

well I was doing well, but kind of fell off the wagon so to speak. I gained 3 pounds back with my ego not in check but am working harder now. I am trying to get 30 grams of fiber a day (not easy!) but it is working for me and I am more determined than ever to do it. I did not chat for a while and that hurt me too so keep up the good work for you!

I'm sure I'll be falling of the wagon many times before I get where I'm going! Stay strong!
