Hoping this will finally be the reason why I get my "Dream Body"

Hello!

I know the title sounds incredibly doolaly, but! I'm just so sick and tired of my fluctuating weight!

I've gone from looking the very best I ever did, eating well and whatever I wanted to now having a BMI of 30!

I don't want to have diabetes at the age of 21, I would be absolutely mortified and broken because I went from being so close to my comfortable body size to now being so so so far away from it.

I'm just feeling a little (a lot!) low and so unsure about everything. I feel like I'm just a lost cause.

Lol.

Anyway!

Nice to meet you all and I hope to get join you all on my weight loss to loosing, hopefully 20 kg!

Thanks,

PR

Hi and welcome PurpleRain1 loving the user name ;)

Make today the start of your healthy eating lifestyle :) Don't think of this as a diet this is the new healthy way to lose weight and eventually maintain :)

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you 😊

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news 😊

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker nhs.uk/tools/pages/healthyw... to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page 😊 We also have a daily diary section which is great to get ideas of what other people are eating and I have to confess to nicking some of their menu's :)

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊

Hey Cracker10, thanks so much for the warm welcome and all the wonderful support!

I've finally finished exams so I'm finally ready to dedicate some time to myself. Kind of nervous for the journey though, but I think that's just because I'm so used to constantly failing at some point along it.

Congrats on loosing the 7 lbs by the way!

I'm hoping on getting and staying motivated with the forum.

You've been a delight!

Welcome PurpleRain1.

Many of us have arrived here feeling like a 'lost cause'. Deep down though, I don't think we really believe that or we wouldn't come here, post and ask for help.

I reckon cracker10 has provided you with lots of great information to be getting on with. It's well worth taking the time (essential :) ) to go through it all in detail.

My strongest tip would be to not look at this as a 'diet' but as a lifestyle change. To make changes in the way you do things that not only help you now but which are sustainable, long after you've reached your weight loss goal.

All the best and good luck!

Hello and thank you, Tiggerr!

You're onto something with that first statement, I do want to improve myself, and I have tried several times, but I think my first step might have to be loving myself a little more!

Indeed, that's a much better way to look at it but that scares me, thinking of it as a lifestyle change and I don't know why!

Maybe it's because I'm getting ready to change myself entirely and I'm worried I won't be able to follow through on it...

but! I have to try.

Thank you so much, and the very best of luck to you too!

You're welcome and you've clearly been giving it a lot of thought.

If it helps, my journey over the last 6 months didn't start with lots of dramatic changes but some changes that I felt comfortable with. And they didn't all work first time (which is the beauty of the help and support you get from here for those times when it doesn't all go to plan).

Work with what suits you now, get comfortable with those changes and then maybe look at changing something else.

That's a good one actually, just trying different things and seeing which ones suit me as opposed to doing the standard "Don't eat X, Do more Y" or whatever.

That's good advice! A much better mindset to approaching the whole thing.

Wow, these forums are actually so helpful!

It's impressive to hear you've still been going for 6 months though! That's great news, well done!

Thank you. I reached my goal about 3 weeks ago but I still need to come here (and regularly) to keep my head straight.

Myself and many others find that chatting here, helping others, being helped... they all make the journey easier but like anything, it's horses for courses :)

Hi PurpleRain1

You are not a lost cause and there is more than hope available on this forum. Cracker10 and tiggerr have given you advice to get started on a new healthier way of life. Keep it simple. If you Eat Less and Move More overtime you will lose weight. I was nearly 30 on the BMI scale in January hovering close to the obese area. I have gradually lost 3 stone and am now in the healthy zone. We all have to find the right weight loss plan for ourselves but eating enough calories is important. For me the two things that have been fundamental have been counting calories and counting steps so that I know I am eating the right amount and moving more. I wish you success on your journey. Hey Daisy1925,

I like the "Eat less, move more" mentality actually, I'll just have to use it as a mantra!

I'm near the obese line on the BMI scale at the moment, but that is actually so impressive of you to have completely transformed within half a year, congratulations you! I hope you celebrated.

I'm using you as inspirational!

I think it's quite wonderful that this forum is full of real people, with real dips and fears and successes and motivation.

Thank you so much for your wonderful advice

Morning PurpleRain1

Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.

We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us today. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.

Dear Rose,

I would love to join in on the daily weigh ins, but I'm quite worried that I'll be super disheartened if I don't see any changes on the scales and I'll just give up or hate myself for not loosing enough...though I suppose I could switch that around and use it to identify where I've gone wrong in the week before/what to do to improve next week.

I will consider it!

Thank you for your advice!

If you don't see any change on the scales then use a tape measure you will be surprised some weeks the inches disappear instead of the pounds! You can do this, just follow your plan and you will not regret it but it does take time but it is certanily worth doing.
