Do you mean gym type exercise Veronica, or is walking also painful ? If its ok , then regular walking can make a big difference along with a healthy, portion controlled diet.

There are many successes on this site as well as strugglers, and we all encourage each other ( it worked for me, in 2014, I had 2 st to lose like you.. but I lost it and have kept all the weight off for over a year... Im 64)

I expect you'll get an official welcome message soon from one of the Nhs administrators on this site, wiith a link to the 12Week plan and other helpful advice. But well done for getting on board, and im sure there are several others on here who will relate to your arthritis issue too.

Hi, I'm 59 too and have back/neck problems and when I started 12 weeks ago I needed to lose between 21lbs and 2 stone so we have a lot in common! I checked my calorie allowance on the BMI calculator here - nhs.uk/Livewell/weight-loss...

then printed off the food and activity charts off I went!

For exercise I started just walking and have progressed to Leslie Sansome videos which are walking based exercise programmes as well. So far I have lost 12lbs and feel much more active.

Everyone on this forum is great, so helpful, any time you need help just come on here!

Good luck!

I too have degenerative disc disease and my spine and my neck are very painful.

I found while I was at my heaviest that walking was the best exercise as well as the recumbent bike at the gym (it supports your back).

Once I lost a bit of weight, I was able to do Pilates and that has strengthened my tummy muscles, which supports your back.

I can now run and ride a real bike and walk even more than when I started!

So, take it steady at first and you might be surprised at how much losing weight helps your spine and neck - good luck!
