I started at 14 stone 13 pounds. My doctor has told me I am significantly over weight. I am 62 semi retired My clothes do not fit me. I have to do something as I have been too big for too long and very embarrassed about the way I look.I have stopped drinking booze completely and started running well shuffling along! I have lost ten pounds so far. I am hoping not to drink till December 25 my healthy weight should be between 10 5 and 12 12 so I have a long way to go. Wish me luck. I have just been eating salads lean meats fish and fruit for lunch. I have been trying to enjoy the sensation of feeling hungry as I am thinking that's when my fat reserves may be being used. I have not started counting calories yet. I need to find it on the web site

Welcome, Lowcal here does newbie threads, good idea to have a plan, a lot here do the NHS 12 week plan.

We all need a sense of structure ( OK most do) and variety for us to manage our weight loss journey. Well that's certainly true for me, I've maintained my weight for a while now, although need to lose a couple of pounds as the top end of the scale now.

Had a couple of tough weeks, I love the fact my clothes now fit me again ( almost better than a few years ago), feel much lighter on my feet, and feel so much better too.

All yours to look forward to.......x

good luck Jeff! sounds like you have made a v good start so far. this is a lovely forum to post on and read if you need motivation. I personally use the app myfitnesspal (MFP) to count calories - I don't follow the NHS plan, but MFP has really helped me be more conscious of what I'm eating and if you have a smartphone it's quite simple to use :)

Thanks Lina I am off to Majorca in three weeks so that's keeping me focused. I will try the app.. I managed a two hour bike ride this morning. I have lost a stone now with one more to go. I went out singing in a pub last night. Everyone was enjoying a beer but I stuck to my Diet Coke. Lime and soda next time though as I was still climbing the wall at midnight LOL thanks again for you kind words🎸🎤🚵🏿

Hi Jeff, I wonder if the bike next to you is going to be your best friend for a while! Either that or find a dog to take you out on a regular basis.

You might not need to count your calories if you are not a habitual snacker (like some of us here), and cutting out the booze will be very helpful. Choosing your foods wisely, filling up on high protein, low carb with a generous proportion of low-fat fruit and veg will do the trick, especially if you can fit in a walk or cycle ride each day.

However, if you want to count calories, look at Myfitnesspal or Nutracheck for an online calorie counter, which does remind you when you have had your total allowed for the day!

Hi JeffDavies123,

Welcome to the Weight Loss NHS forum, and it's great to see your photo - you look very happy with your bike and you are looking good - I know you've already lost 10 pounds, and I'd like to Congratulate you on that great achievement. Brilliant to hear you've managed to stop drinking booze completely and that you're enjoying some running too. You asked us to wish you luck - so wishing you the very best of luck with the rest of your weight loss journey.

Do read our Welcome Newbie thread if you're looking for more motivation - moreless has collated this thread, and it is really inspiring reading. It's in the Pinned posts area - which is top right-hand-side of the homepage.

Enjoy your week.

Lowcal :-)
