Start of Week 38 … Back on Track

It is funny how easy it is to ignore your end goal, being satisfied with your current position rather than pushing forward that little bit harder to hit that final target. You become satisfied with your current location, you do not need to push up that final hill, you are happy settling in this last valley. All your effort to get where you are becomes overshadowed by your complacency, and you become contempt at where you are.

It reminds me of the place towards the end of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy:

Sam: [Both are overcome by exhaustion] Do you remember the Shire, Mr. Frodo? It'll be spring soon. And the orchards will be in blossom. And the birds will be nesting in the hazel thicket. And they'll be sowing the summer barley in the lower fields... and eating the first of the strawberries with cream. Do you remember the taste of strawberries?

Frodo: No, Sam. I can't recall the taste of food... nor the sound of water... nor the touch of grass. I'm... naked in the dark, with nothing, no veil... between me... and the wheel of fire! I can see him... with my waking eyes!

Sam: Then let us be rid of it (the ring)... once and for all! Come on, Mr. Frodo. I can't carry it for you... but I can carry you!

Then I am reminded that although I have a target in mind, it is not the target that is my aim; it is the journey. Unlike Sam and Frodo I do not have to get rid of the ring, or the weight in my case. All I need to do is to continue to live healthily. It may just happen that my original aim, the weight loss, may just happen alongside.

The last few weeks have been tough on me. My exercise has been missed due to work commitments and weather. My eating habits have been a little disrupted due to hotel movements, although my calorie intake is still on target. However my focus is back on track.

I can see my goal once again.

Please note my aim is to lose everything by December, so I still have time, and maybe that is why I have been a little lethargic when it comes to my target.

I hope you good people are doing better than me; my journey has been through some detours recently.

Hi Johnny-One,

I've enjoyed reading your post today, and I haven't read the Lord of the Rings, so that interchange was new to me. :-)

There are often some detours along the weight loss journey, and I think you are sounding calm and focused on your goal to lose by December - and like you say, you've got plenty of time before then.

Wishing you a great week ahead.

Lowcal :-)

hi Johnne-One,

I know what you mean. I just got back from a busy work week at Royal Ascot and I am about to go away again for a summer camp. through all that my exercise routine got lost. I try to eat healthy and keep checking my Fitbit to make sure I walk enough however I defiantly have to focus more on my target. I believe we can do it:)

The LOTR is a great analogy, I like it.

Keep the goal in mind, but yes, enjoy the journey and watch out for those Orcs!

Loved the post, yes it so reminded me of myself, a week away ten days ago, family meals, and generally over eating, ok so only a pound gain.

I know it wasn't comfort, funerals, family and sorting stuff, strange at times and last week, not back on track, it musn't be a loss for all I've gained, no matter what life throws at me, being fatter won't achieve anything.

A better more on track weeek for us both I think!

Agree wholeheartedly 😊 Sam and Frodo achieved their objectives by continually putting one foot in front of the other, and not looking too far ahead 😊 The same goes for healthy eating, good nutrition and (hopefully) weight loss 😊 Enjoy the process, eat food you like, do activities you enjoy, and hopefully the attain the fitter and healthier you 😊
