Just been told I have pre diabetes but I'm confused about what I can eat. The GI diet was recommended but it confuses me. All bran has a low GI but All bran has high sugar, whereas Weetabix is medium GI but has lower sugar. Also any tips on losing weight?

Hi and welcome jjgilb
I would suggest that you get advice from a medical professional, or do a lot of research of your own. I can give you some link which you can have a look at, but ultimately, the decision needs to be yours

Good luck!
The best breakfast cereals are the whole grain ones. That is 100% whole grain so no sugar, no salt. Consider oats as porridge or as a muesli type cold cereal with fruit. Then shredded wheat, large and minis but not shreddies as they have sugar etc. Puffed wheat is one of my favourites. Sainsbury's and Tesco seem to stock it most regularly. While you are getting used to these cereals, it might be worth having a mixture of your old cereal and your new and gradually increasing the new and decreasing the old. One shredded wheat biscuit is also nice shredded as a topping on low fat yogurt and fruit.
I have just bought Michael moseys 8 week blood sugar diet- makes a lot sense in explanation - and the science is interesting .
Other book i revert to time and time again to is Rick Gallop the GI diet - has useful pages on low medium and high GI - again pretty simple explanations.
Good luck
Thanks for the help everyone. It's not so much as what I eat but the amount I eat. Just ordered the 2 books recommended by suzybenj and looking at sites by moreless. Will def eat more wholemeal as suggested by venusflytrap. I hope I can get my body fit again. I gave up chocolate 3 years ago and only ate some at Christmas this year. Realised what I was doing so gave up again. I know it's silly but when I was giving up chocolate I used to talk to it. Not out loud as I didn't want people to think I was crazy. In my mind I would say hello to the chocolate and then say I can't stop as I am in a rush. I found it stopped me thinking of it in a positive way and it was like I was rushing away from someone who I didn't want to meet.
