I am hoping to get help with motivation and understanding as I start my weight loss journey to shift the 7 stone I have put on in the last few years. I could give all the usual excuses but let's be honest I did it by eating too much and doing too little! Bring it on!

Hi Plippy67. You will get lots of help with motivation on this forum. I have found it a great help. Good you are being honest with yourself and by eating less and moving more you will soon get into the swing of things on your weight loss journey. Best of luck
I found the first few days the hardest, but the cravings for cake etc will subside (honest)!
Good luck!
This journey is fun once you get started. It feels really good to do something so positive for your health. Plan your food and exercise for each day and then do your very best to stick to it. If you fall off the wagon - don't worry about it - get back up and on it again. Onwards until you reach your goal....
As long as you eat 600 calories less than you burn you will achieve a weight loss of 0.5-2lbs a week but just as it crept on over time, you need to give yourself time and patience for it to go. It took me a year to lose three stones and I've three more to lose.
I use Myfitness Pal app to plan and count my calories, it allows me 1200 calories a day and at the touch of the screen i can access their huge data base. A free app and a very useful tool.
I also invested in a Fitbit to monitor my activity. I do not go to the gym but you'll be surprised how far you walk in a day in unconsciously, my average is 10,000.
Being part of a group important.
Weight yourself once a week, same day, same time.
Drink water sparking or otherwise, throughout the day, just have a bottle near the kettle or in the fridge or where your favourite sitting place is, when you're bored or about to go to nibble, drink the water instead. Tea and coffee made with skimmed milk is ok too, but coffee de hydrates you, so limit t.
Smaller portions. Use a breakfast plate instead of a dinner plate.
Plan ahead and try to have a variety of breakfasts, lunches and dinners, not the same thing.
Introduce something new and healthy to your menu plan each week. Grapefruit, blueberries, strawberries, oranges, kiwi, broccoli, because you need vitamin C to burn fat.
Good luck and I wish you well in your journey. You've made your mind up to do it, you've the right head on and you're not alone. You will succeed.
PS stick a picture of you at your heaviest on the fridge or treat cupboard to keep you focussed.
But a belt, a big one! Use it to measure your loss you will be surprised how motivational this can be.
