Hey! I am 22 stone 6 ft 2 and started couch to 5k, I have been walking at 5am 3/4 times a week for 3 miles for the last month, I walk with my 2 kids in the daytime as well, I know my weight isn't ideal for running, but I enjoy it, I got close to 20 stone begening of the year, I actually out ran the plan and started running a full mile without stopping, I got down to 35mins for a 5k run!!
The thing I am worried about is, I thought I was relatively fit for a big guy, RELATIVELY... but I went for hike with my brother, it was fine, mild hills and rough ground, but then came a real steep bit, I felt like I was going to die (not actually die but heaving), My stomach was burning so much I felt sick, I couldnt catch my breath quick enough, and my legs where hurting, got to the top of the hill, all calmed down, absolutely fine.
Now Im guessing lugging my big arse up that hill isn't easy, 139kg of weight on these lovely legs of mine isnt a walk in the park, however... I have agreed to climb a mountain on the 31st of this month.... it's snowdonia but had I previously done this walk I would probably have turned it down, NOW...
My real question is, how the hell do I prepare for a mountain walk in 21 days??
If anyone would like to set out a meal plan exercise for endurance and strength please please help!!!

Welcome rundog and thanks for giving us an insight into your situation.
This forum's purpose is to aid people in losing weight which would likely help you in the long run but as you've only got a few weeks to go, this is all about any potential training that you might be able to achieve.
Maybe there's someone here with personal training experience but you may wish to look for a forum that focuses on exercise.
Just my opinion but I think that as you're managing the 5k parkruns then mount Snowdon may already be within your grasp. How fast was the walk with your brother? If it was too quick then that may have caused your symptoms.
I'm only guessing but if you take the mountain at your own pace, resting whenever you want to, then maybe you can do it already.
Hey thanks for your detailed reply, much appreciated, and thanks for the encouraging thoughts, yes I realized I meant to put this in the couch to 5k section, now it's in both!!
I am definitely in the section for losing weight, but at this moment in time its massively about focusing on fitness before the mountain. So I am going to seek out someone with training experience which is a good idea so thanks.
It was only the run 1 week 1 and was very interesting, as to walking too quick I think you may be right, we didnt stop and we didnt walk slow, but thats how we all walk, and how we will going up the mountain, which is why I needed to get over this blip!
Lets see what happens but you gave me something to think about. Have a great day!
My advice, as someone that has done the 3 peaks, 6 peaks and Kili, is that if people aren't going to let you go at your pace then you're better off bowing out gracefully this time around and working on your overall health until the next time.
If you do feel you must go then you have to put yourself first and take it at a pace that's safe (and enjoyable) for you.
Hello and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum rundog5 😊
I agree with Tiggerr, three weeks isn’t really long enough to make a massive change, but it is long enough to lose some weight, and create some good eating habits which will help with Snowdon.
We don’t have set eating plans, we are a peer to peer support group, but have a look around, especially at the Daily Diary and see how others are eating for safe and sensible weight loss. Also have a look at this for extra insight healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Thank you for your reply! Any information is helpful, and the link is spot on thank you.
I should have mentioned in my post that I am on a journey to fitness and have lost a significant amount of weight already over a year, I have also been into my fitness from day one and I am not looking for a quick fix but something to give me an edge to go up a mountain, losing weight will definitely help and eating habits is what I am looking for too, which I want to get an insight to as well.
You need to have your glycogen reserves (about 2,000 calories of short-term energy) topped up for an exercise challenge... so it is not a good idea to try to lose weight in the last week or two.
I think you will need to pace yourself and accept that it will take a while to get up the mountain and back again.
I would suggest it might be a good idea to take a torch in case you do not get back before dark?
Thanks S11m Ill research more about the reserves, Im building a little plan for myself, of dieting for 2 weeks then eating normally for the last week, and see if this helps!
Ill be taking a few things, a torch will definitely be one of them!
That sounds like a good plan, except I wouldn’t use words like “dieting” and “eating normally”. How about you eat healthily with the hope of a little fat loss for two weeks and then eat for optimum fitness for the last one? Only words but words matter, as does getting into the right headspace 😊
I've never been that great at explaining things, I just type as I think, but I agree I have a couple of affirmations I recite every morning, and I swear it helps.
I'm begining to like this Health Unlocked site, everyones very helpful. Thank you!
Enjoy your day! I may stick around and keep updating my progress
Hi all who followed this I made the walk, & done it on the worse day possible, it was last Friday, felt a sense of incredible achievement, to push my body to limits it has never been through before. I wish I could upload photos to show the gps route I took and how far we walked as we went down a different path on the way back, we took the PYG track up and I can't remember what the other one was down but it was very far. 11.72 miles in total burnt just below 8000 calories, we completed it in just under 8 hours. I was worried for my life at some points but what doesn't kill you... lol
Thanks for all your support, I took all information on board and designed a little training program 3 weeks before going which had worked.
