I am writing my first post in a long while although still enjoyed reading about how good/bad everyone else is getting on. Turned 50 in June and had a summer of eating/drinking, weekends away and then an all inclusive trip to Mexico which was amazing but a disaster for my weight. Also lots of great figures even people my age I was so jealous to be honest!! Just returned yesterday and shocked to see my weight is 14 stone!! Only 5'3 so I really do need to do something about it now it's my heaviest ever. Have downloaded couch to 5k but was busy today having just returned from hols with washing etc! I am quite fit despite weight and walk regularly most of the time. Desperate for any advice/tips anyone might have for me to see this through.
Thanks for reading.

Thanks for birthday wishes. Diet is normally good during the week but tend to go off the rails a bit at weekends, always seems to be something on, wedding this weekend, just back from all inc holiday but as you say now it's time to take control and say no sometimes! Thanks again.
Love Mexico...hope you enjoyed it.....welcome to the forum. What's your plan? I'm 5 feet 6 and have burnt off nine pounds so far in four weeks...with 1400 to 1600 cals a day. Check out your BMI if you choose the twelve week NHS plan to find your baseline. Oh and good luck and let us know how you get on.😉
Mexico was great first time but hopefully not the last. Counting calories is quite hard but should get used to it. Will keep you posted. Thanks for your reply. 😀
Put together your menu plan for the week and stick it on the fridge. Then prep for your meals at least 24 hours in advance.
Hi ? Going shopping tomorrow for healthy shop and will be better prepared with menu plan. Have been counting calories just been a bit boring eating same things as post holiday cupboards empty!
You probably found like most of us ladies over a "certain age" that we seem to gain weight far more easily than we used to!
The only way is to fully monitor what you eat. Calorie counting is the simplest for most of us as you can allow for special days/hols etc.
As I went through my fifties, my menopausal years, I felt I was eating much the same way as before. But I didnt weigh myself (just bought more generously cut clothing!) and over ten years I suddenly realised Id gained 2 stone.
Last year I decided to tackle it. I Joined this nhs site and also Myfitnesspal , and calorie counted every day ( even the 'bad' days) approx 1400 a day.
I am now 63 , not a runner or a gym bunny, but I walk an average 2-3 miles a day. I reached my target BMI 23 in April this year and so far am maintaining within 2-3lbs leeway, despite two short holidays and a 2 wk all inclusive cruise!
Would definitely agree gaining weight much easier when you're menopausal and it all settles around the middle, talk about middle age spread! Sounds like you have your weight under control I hope I can too. Will try my fitness pal to make it easier. Thanks for replying and keep up the great work.
