Unexplained weight gain

Fifelassieo profile image
8 Replies

I have poly myalgia, fibromyalgia and oestoarthritis, l have been on weight watchers plan for two years now, in that time l have only lost 7lb. The reason l keep going is l have managed to keep my weight steady, l have completely stuck to my plan, my coach has no idea why l am not losing weight, l have been tested by my doctor for diabetes in the past but it comes back normal. Anyone with any suggestions are welcome, l just feel that it is not what l am eating that is causing me not to lose the weight.

Hello Fifelassieo

There's a lot there but it's worth taking your time to read, honest!

We recommend you joining a Weekly Weigh In on the day of your choice, and using the Daily Diary, where members share their meal plans and get useful feedback.

It would be a good idea to check out your BMI if you've not already done so..you don't need a tape measure just your weight and height and here's a link to the NHS calculator

Please also read this information about security, especially as your post is unlocked

I think you'd say to anyone else in that situation, ditch your current plan and go for a change.

If you read Diane2's first link, that will point you in the right direction and this explains further phcuk.org/wp-content/upload...

If you join in our Daily Diary, you'll see what others are eating and can ask questions and share your plans

It may be the drugs you are on, I have fibromyalgia and I am on gaberpentin, zapain, ibrupropen, fluoxetine and Amatryptoline some put weight on. I’m going to see my doctor to see if they can change them for something that doesn’t put weight on me. I do hope you conquer this weight gain. J

Welcome to the forum fifelassieo. This is such a brilliant place, full of support and guidance 😊

It’s well worth investing the time in reading the information you’ve been given. When I first came on here I really thought I knew how to go about losing weight, just needed some support. But I have had a lot of surprises!

Are you on any medication? If so that could be making it all a bit harder.

I wish you all the best of luck

It's not exactly "unexplained". The reason is that your diet is ineffective :) . You've already figured that out for yourself (it's the things you're eating that are causing the problem). So if your coach hasn't figured it out, I'd say it's time to get another coach.

Honestly, if you called out a plumber to fix a leaky tap, and he did that teeth-sucking thing and told you "ooh, I dunno, I really can't understand why your tap is leaking", you'd wonder how he ever got a job as a plumber, wouldn't you?

So why do we put up with this sort of incompetence from diet professionals?

Have a look at BridgeGirl 's link, which explains how obesity and weightloss actually works. If it piques your interest, you might want drop into the LCHF group:

healthunlocked.com/lchf-diet

However a lot of the members here are doing some form of LCHF, so you can be sure of some good, straightforward advice whichever forum you post in.

Two years for 7lbs? I admire your persistence. You will succeed when you find the right approach. I gave up on calorie counting after 2 weeks of no weight change.

What's working for me (lots of links provided by others) is LCHF, with intermittent fasting. I don't have your health issues, but you should give it a try yourself, and see how you respond.

Thanks, l have tried other diets e.g slimming world Atkins etc but to know avail, Atkins worked for a while but l just couldn’t sustain it

I think that's good news. Atkins is a form of Low Carb diet. If you lost weight on that, then I think it's likely you can find a lower carb diet that works and you can live with.

I'm very new to this, and I have never done Atkins so can't offer you informed advice, but I will cheer you on with whatever you decide to do.

Not what you're looking for?
