I had this in the beginning when I was doing couch to 5k. My weight would go up and down and I just didn't seem to be shifting weight how I expected to. However, over the course of the 9 weeks I did lose 3lb overall. I also lost several inches off my waist, so the difference was more in terms of body shape than results on the scales. So maybe you're experiencing something similar, a mixture of muscle gain, perhaps some water retention, but maybe also some signs of change in your waist measurement too? If you watch your portions and keep exercising you will eventually see the difference. Are you following the NHS 12 week plan? I found that was what made the difference to me in terms of really upping my weight loss. But exercise is a great first step, just keep going with it :)

Ooooh - don't say that about the C25K ! I shall get really demotivated if the scales don't keep going down. I'm hopeless about taking measurements, as I always seem to measure myself in different places each time and never get consistent results. I'm sure that eventually I'd notice a shape change, but I like having the quick results of seeing a weight loss ! <feeling panicky !>

I wasn't doing the 12 week plan or watching calories at that point, and was still drinking way too much wine. I was eating healthily, but nowhere near as disciplined as once I'd started the 12 week plan and was sticking to 1400cals/day. So actually the fact I lost 3lb overall was a small miracle. Don't panic! Combining 12 week plan and couch to 5k will be a plus, not a minus!

Yes, however I have noticed that my waist is slimmer and my clothes 'feel' baggier...so I consider that a plus, even if the scales don't show it! :)

I've found this too, I've only lost 4lb overall but have gone down nearly a dress size from all the exercise I'm doing, I'd much rather see a difference that way than just on the scales. Keep at it as it can take a while to really start noticing. :)

Yeah, it's the lovely feeling of being fit and feel of jeans that look great ...and fit without leaving a perminana red mark around the waist. Or is that me over sharing? Scale measurement has to follow! Keep on keeping on.😀

If you have just begun to exercise then its certainly not muscle gain.

The other day I weighed myself, went for a hard 45 minute power walk and weighed myself at the end - I lost over a pound.

You can not look at the scales constantly - you see results over time so don't take every tick up and down as a bad sign.

You should be losing gradually over a period of weeks and months.

Not what you're looking for?
