Week 12 : was it worth it ??

β€’12 Replies

Hi all,

Weigh in today and 1/2 Ib on. Last weekend had a couple of family celebrations, Friday went well, Lebenese food really nice, fresh and healthy. Saturday was sister in law's birthday and she did an afternoon tea, and had cooked for 2 days everything high cal and delicious, and I was unable to say no!!. Result was next day bloated, heavy, sluggish and feeling really tired and I can only put it down to the amount of high fat, sugar and carbs. Was it worth it NO. I spent the rest of the week doing damage limitation !!

I realise I need to stop eating just to please people, when I reflected on the day I ate far too much and did not even enjoy it after a while, but felt was letting her down by not ' digging in' . Lesson learned !!

Today I measured self, lost 1 and 1/2 inches bust, 2 inches off waist and 2 inches off hips, and well pleased.

Here's to the next 12 weeks, my goal remains the same of loss of 20 Ibs, I am down 7 so hey ho lets go lol.

Have a lovely weekend and an even better week.

Hi Flossie, I know what you mean about eating to please people. It's even harder when it's family. If your sister's so into her cooking, I imagine she would be pleased to make something healthier too so that you're catered for, if you ask her in advance. As the only vegetarian in the family, there is often something different on the table which I'm made aware is for me, and it's normally healthy. When people are coming back for seconds of potatoes, meats etc, I'm topping up with veggies, boiled eggs and salad. Perhaps next time you could tell her in advance you're trying to lose this weight, or you're on a health drive of some sort, perhaps offer to bring a dish, some nice fruits, and she will hopefully say oh no I'll make something - what would you like? Good luck for continuing the weight loss plan, congrats on losing 7lb that's half a stone and no mean feat. Lots of inches gone too - it's a new you! Glad you enjoyed the Lebanese food too :)

Hi Ruth,

I have not said anything to family about making changes, this time I decided to just do it !! The next time we have a gathering I will check out what we are eating. When I asked her about a chocolate shortbread she had baked so I could try and work out just how many calories I had eaten Helen said ' oh that it was made with double cream and about 500 cals a slice' !! and yes I did have more than one piece eek !

I am looking forward to the next phase as do feel more fitter and healthier.

It should be possible to have 500 calorie chocolate shortbread at some point I guess - but maybe it was not the right moment to find out you'd had two! I wonder if it really was that bad - did she really know how many calories per slice? If so how many was she having herself! Loving your halo smiley face. That is you from now on, right? :)

Hi Flossie358

1/2 lb on in a week where you have had a couple of family celebrations is not a bad result. You should take great pride in your results so far and the inches lost off your figure. Well done for getting to the end of week 12 and remaining so focused, you obviously know how to make the plan work for you and what to do if you have a little blip. Good luck in your onward journey.

Hi Flossie. 1/2 lb is pretty good considering you had mountains to climb. I think you should be proud of yourself, it could have been a lot worse. What I have found us if you have a blip one week the following week you can make it up if you get back on track.

Good luck and stop being so hard on yourself for a minor digression which can be repaired. Good luck X

I'm feeling good having emptied my wardrobes of all 18 and above clothes. Now the sun is shining so am I!

Not eating naughty stuff this week and my usual 4-5 hours of workout at the gym so yes I'm happy thank you.

Out for Sunday lunch in Hull to meet up with old Royal Navy colleagues and have a much needed Chinwag. Know I will choose wisely as have had time to think about it.

Have a great weekend yourself and chat soon. X

Hi flossie this is an excellent result although you gained half lb you have lost a considerable amount in inches so yeah I'd be well please to so well done hun.

I believe it's always best to enjoy the moment and work it off later and if you gain you know why and although we don't want to gain we know what to do to get back on track.

Those inches you lost are more rewarding than a half lb gain and very impressive I might add :-)

Have a good week and many congratulations completing your 12 weeks :-) BIG CHEER :-)

Hi Trafford1,

Thanks for your nice words. I think the inch loss is due to the circuit class I go to twice a week, as I had never gone to a gym before although I used to do Zumba and salsa dancing before my stroke.

I have tried my lace skirt on still a work in progress !! Lol 😱

I feel really positive about the past 12 weeks and know the next 12 will bring me even more success

Have a fab weekend

Hi Flossie358,

Glad you enjoyed the Lebanese food, and that you made some healthy choices that evening. I know you're disappointed by the following day's food choices, but at least you've only gained half a pound, that should soon come off again providing you get back on track. Perhaps make the weekend into one where you do what 'you' want to do - i.e. practise saying 'no' if you are offered anything you don't want to eat - and see how it goes. People do tend to accept it if you're firm about your intentions. But it can take a while, or take practise, as I guess some people want to 'push' their food onto others, as it's customary to offer food to people, and can feel difficult to challenge that.

You've done really well over the past 12 weeks - you've noticed differences in your measurements, and you're 7 pounds down. That is briliant, and going forward, I hope you'll enjoy further weight loss and also feel good within yourself.

Wishing you a great weekend.

Lowcal :-)

Hi Lowcal,

Thank you for your kind words and positive support. I put my inch loss down to the twice weekly circuit classes I 've been doing, as I had never been in a gym.

You are so right in having to 'practice' saying no, and I certainly know my 'devil' foods are cakes, scones and sweet pastries, I am sure part of it is the sugar. Once I taste it I find it hard to only have a small portion/piece. It's all about making adult choices.

I am looking forward to the next 12 weeks.πŸ˜ƒ

Have a lovely weekend and hope weigh in is positive.
