Is walking effective?

I find that after jogging I get a bad back, (probably due to the fact that I'm doing it all wrong!) so as a pain free alternative I thought I would try walking in the mornings, but is it effective? Or should I just keep trying with the jogging? Thanks :)

morning soph,

2 years ago and over a year and a half I lost 6.5 stones.... I couldn't jog because of a bad back from a car crash.... I couldn't afford a gym so I took up walking .... started out slowly and in a matter of weeks I was walking 10K a day and it did wonders for me... and my weight...

you get exersice.... fresh air.... and alone time away from it all....unless you take a buddy....

Do what you think you will be able to continue with! I have just dug out my pedometer and am planning on working towards the recommended 10,000 steps a day.

I walk 150 mins per week..break it into 30 mins,15min etc!!! To achieve goal, I even get home and before going in I walk around the block all to get to 150 mins per week......... If I over do this amount I seeem to get tired or bored, I also have a gym membership & do weights.

So quick answer walking is very good for you.....

Thank you for all your responses, I do live walking as it is very therapeutic! Will try that and hopefully put my back at ease.

I saw a physiotherapist about my sore back and she said the problem was with my feet. Having built up insoles in my shoes has helped.
