Walking!

Hi, I'm following my exercise plan from my Samsung health app which is great as it calculates my calories and advises me how much exercise I need to do etc. However it has recently upped my steps from 6k to 10k, though I like walking, I'm getting bored of doing the same little walks around my house. I think I really need to join a walking group or at least have a walking buddy that I can still fit around my working hours. I can't seem to find one. Any suggestions?

There are a few websites that have suggested walks, I’ve heard MapMyWalk is good.

Could you perhaps incorporate more steps into your working day? Walk to and from work and at lunchtime? Take the stairs more, or use the ‘facilities’ (Toilets 🤣) on a different floor?

And for extra motivation don’t forget the forum exercise challenges (in Pinned Posts) healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Hi Indigo, walking to and from work is not feasible, but I have started to walk during my lunch break when I can. I only get half an hour though. I could do with a longer walk in the evenings but get quite bored alone, but am not fit enough yet to join a gym yet. Getting better though

I’m with you on the “getting there” part 😊. Do you do any exercise videos? There’s loads on YouTube, I especially like Lesley Sansome

Have a look at your nearest Ramblers group. They're not all 20 mile yomps over the moors so there might be something to suit you. See if there's any information at your library or on your local authority website. Some places do health walks, thought the ones local to me are during the day so may not be much use to you if you work regular hours. I've also seen some people talk about walking the 5k park runs that are usually at the weekend.

Hi Hoops...I also use Samsung Health app for walking. U can try walking up the hill or create ur own challenges. I used to create in excel sheet and track it to see if I can do.

Thanks Fairy tales, that sounds like my kind of thing, I'm a bit of an excel geek and like to track things. I find it only spurs me on if I can challenge something, even if it is myself. Good news anyway I have found a walking group to join. My first walk on Sunday morning. Further than I usually walk but got to start pushing myself sometime ! Wish me luck
