Good luck the change in habits is never easy but very worthwhile. Stay strong and plan ahead seems to work wonders
You can do this
I was a primary school teacher in the UK for many years. The biggest problem I had was too many coffee and biscuits, eating the same lunch as the kids but more and working crazy long hours with all the marking and planning that I ate on the go and grabbed too many takeaways because it was quick and easy. The Chinese takeaway knew my order from my voice and I didn't even need to place one... oh dear....
The best advice I can give is this- make one change. Either a little one or a big one!
Things like:
Give up the biscuits with your tea or coffee.
Have only 1 biscuit instead of 6 (this was hard for me when I was low on energy and wanted/needed the sugar hit, I found I had to say no altogether)
Make dinners that can also be your lunch the next day.
Do not buy any takeaway foods for a month. (This was also really hard for me, especially if my flatmates were getting something delivered)
Cut back any pastas or bread with smaller portions and fill up the rest of the plate with protein, veggies and salad.
Drink more water- have a drink bottle in your class. This was one area that helped. I found that in a day I drank next to no water, but felt much better for having a bottle that I could fill a glass or drink from during the day.
Have a better breakfast.
I know what its like when you are stressed and tired from being in the classroom all day. It never ceases to amaze me how many people think that a teacher's day starts and finishes with classes in the classroom. I worked to 9.30 most evenings and then all Sunday afternoon as our planning for every lesson that week had to be handed in first thing Monday morning.
Put on top of that, that all the schools I worked in demanded that all books for every subject must be marked before the next lesson in that subject, it meant massive amounts of English and Math marking every day.
The only way to succeed is to get organised with your food and start making one change at a time
Good luck!
As a teacher you'll know that hard work brings rewards. There is nothing hard about losing weight, if you eat less than you burn then your body will make up the shortfall from your reserves - and the scales go down. Simple.
What is hard is changing your bad habits, learning to say no to yourself and empowering yourself to fight the inner voice that says sod it and opens the wine and family pack of crisps
I could 'diet' all day but come the evening when I'd had my healthy tea and poured the glass of wine I had allowed calories for it all flew out of the window...
It was deciding to only have a drink on a Saturday night with my partner that changed my yo-yo years of every diet in ever written into positive empowered results.
It's not been easy (my earlier comment was tongue in cheek) but with a bit of discipline and thought I'm well on my way to a healthy weight. I'm exercising 4 times a week (first time in 30 years) and feel so much better - being in control has lifted my mood too
You need a plan I feel. I got a notebook, wrote down how I feel, how I want to feel and what stood in my way. In my case it was a large appetite and reduced resistance when I'd had a drink.
I made the pledge to moderate alcohol and follow the 5:2 plan to restrict calories and therefore reduce my expectation of large meals. It's really worked and now it's the way I live
Good luck with achieving your goals
