Hey im in a similar situation, if you go to the nhs.uk site you can print off the plan. I printed it off then read through it, highlighting any sites etc.. I thought would be helpful ive decided to plan it all out throughly before setting a start date. Once id read it through it seemed quite simple. Count calories and increase activity and record on a chart, worry about only the week ahead so it doesnt get too much. if you are still confused after reading let me know if I can help with anything. Good luck

Hi I am in the same boat, I have a real problem, I've completely lost the plot!

After years of struggling with my weight there does not seem to be any fight left in me

(age 63). It has to be done because my Diabetes has been really bad I am type 2 with

Insulin. Any suggestions?

It basically works by encouraging you to eat less and exercise more. Keep it simple, work out your calorie intake from the BMI calculator and plan your meals and snacks to be within it. My tips are to use smaller plates and not to get too hungry. You won't lose all your weight in the 12 weeks but you will get in the habit of eating healthy food and less of it.

There is lots of advice about exercise too.

Good luck with your journey.

I'm not good at calories counting and knowing the the good fat from bad fat. So I'm just as baffled as you there.

Plan your food for the week in advance and stick to it. The plan is not rocket science - just eat less than you burn off and the weight will disappear. It's about being mentally ready to really stick at it. Write everything down and make sure you do record all calories - even those you drink. Tell people about what you are doing - I found that has really helped me to stick to it and be accountable for my eating habits. Don't go mad - just take each day as it comes. I am on week 7 now and on day one I thought 'oh my goodness, 12 weeks....' but I am already over half way through and it has flown. Healthy eating has become a way of life for me now. You can do it if you really want it that bad. Good luck and go for it.

Someone recommended myfitnesspal app to me, so far I've found it really useful for tracking everything. The plan is to stick to a set reduced (1,400 or less for a woman) calorie intake & increase exercise. I also have a bit of 'diet fatigue' as people have mentioned in some of the replies, but I think this approach of taking it day-by-day, week-by-week seems manageable. I am focussing on vastly reducing/eliminating alcohol & carbs, but not taking it to extremes (e.g. Went out for dinner last night, drove to avoid alcohol temptation so allowed myself carbs). Good luck, we're all in the same boat & can cheer each other on. Making your mind up to do it & do it properly is half the battle x

Just keep a record of everything you eat and how many calories it is, either using an app like myfitnesspal or old school using paper and pen. I find it helpful to menu plan for the week and then stick to it. This also stops the nothing out of the freezer takeaway! I say to myself that I can eat anything, so long as I am willing to record it and work out the calories. I don't want to start denying myself too much, as this is a lifestyle change not a diet and I am more likely to fail if I think I can't have something! Good luck with it all

It doesn't matter about 12 weeks, but it would make a good kick start for you,and boost yourself into a better frame of mind to carry on.we all know if you have a fair bit of weight to loose it takes a while.but it didn't go on in 12 weeks so we can't expect to loose it in 12 week, but you can have a good go at doing the best you can in that 12 weeks with the help of the program,so get cracking and see how it could work for you,and let us know .
