Does anyone use an exercise bike, if so does it help you loose weight ?

Hi Kay, I've got one but haven't used it much yet. I'm planning to use it much more from now on, and am hoping it will really make a difference. The reason I found I haven't used it much yet so far is, to be honest, I found it quite boring! So now I've set up the laptop in front of it and am going to watch films on DVD on the laptop while exercising on the bike. Have you got one and are you using it? I could do with 'exercise bike buddies' where we tell each other how much time we are doing on the bike each day and so keep each other motivated to keep putting the time in. Now I'm going to choose what film to watch while I'm on the bike today, it better be a good one.

I've just started on mine today. I watched the tv while I was on it and before I knew I had done 30 mins. Doesn't sound a lot but felt really good after it, can't wait to go on again tomorrow. Maybe I will end up doing more minutes , I'll have to see how I get on.

Eating less than you burn in exercise is the only way to lose weight!

Download the free MyFitnessPal app and log your calories, and don't eat any exercise calories you burn and you will lose weight.

I use the bike when I go to the gym. I've heard that you get the best out of cardio equipment like the bike by doing interval training. If you do the same speed for an alloted amount of time it's good, and it will burn calories, but your body will quickly adapt and get used to it. To interval train you go as hard and fast as you can for a short amount of time, then ease up and do a steady speed for a slightly longer period of time, then repeat. Lately I've been doing 20 seconds hard and 40 seconds easier, so a full interval takes a minute. Because you're changing speeds regularly it keeps the muscles active, and you get a bit of a rest in between the tough bits. You burn calories while doing it, but you also burn fat the rest of the day, awesome!

p.s. it makes your legs burn so make sure you re-fuel afterwards!!

At the risk of boring you all I shall tell you of my experience[ good] about losing weight. First of all exercise doesnt help all that much although its essential for physical and mental well being. My good results have come from using the LCHF ie low carbohydrate high fat way of eating. This together with portion control resulted in my shedding 88 lbs, and I have maintained this loss for almost two years now.

I get regular blood tests to show that all is in order. I walk on a treadmill six days a week, never felt better.

Almost forgot, by using this LCHF way of eating I can control my blood glucose levels WITHOUT medications.

Twenty five years ago I had a heart attack and twelve years ago quadruple by-pass surgery. Lately was diagnosed with mild pulmonary hypertension and leaky heart valves.

The good aspect of the LCHF diet is that you can eat very well and enjoy your food, its not a licence to eat as much as you want though. In the beginning it demands good disipline to get rid of your carbohydrate cravings.

Hope that this may help somebody as it has helped me.

Philip.
