It would seem that The Hairy Bikers also loved their muffins and cakes" Their two diet books give some excellent low fat low sugar recipes for such things - all calorie counted. You will be able to see them on line but worth purchasing as the other recipes are lovely. The muffin recipes still need discipline though as they cannot be eaten ad hoc! Muriel
Hmm. A good reply but I just avoid such stuff.
I agree with fenbadger. If you cook a batch you'll have a whole load in the house, smell them cooking and resisting over indulgence will be difficult! Cakes, biscuits, chocolate (high sugar choc) should be very infrequent treats. Personally, if I get near a cake, biscuit etc I just can't stop so I find that ovoiding is best. I haven't had any such item for 17 days since I read a link about sugar addiction on this site and I quite honestly don't have a craving and haven't had for about 10 days. Making my mind up from day 1 to day 7 got me through the craving period. Avoiding carbs and sugar and upping fat and protein has been a revalation. I don't feel hungry and I don't have cravings.
Sugar and baked goods is what got most of us here trying to lose weight - so we really need to rethink our "treat" mentality and our intake of sugar and refined carbohydrates which raises insulin levels and causes us to store that energy.
We all fall for the "healthy treats" thing because they have oats and fruit - but they aren't really are they.
Hi Kerr,
Download the Change 4 Life recipies app if you can. They ahve a healthy scone and muffin recipe. Also, in week 9, of the NHS 12 week weightloss plan, there is a lovely banana loaf recipe. Also, I like the Cooking Light Magazine. Its American, but some of the stuff you can easily make and it provides you with the calorie and nutritional breakdown per portion. I am planning to try this recipe: myrecipes.com/recipe/chocol... This Chocolate Chip Zucchini (or Courgette!) bread sounds yum!
If you are anything like me, it might also be a good idea to freeze what you wont eat in portions for another day...I dont have the willpower to stay away from those goodies! If I bake 12 muffins...I eat 12 muffins!!! Happy baking!
And one more thing...if you like biscuits and you dont want to bake...try Snack O Jacks Caramel Rice Cakes or Garibaldi Biscuits.
