I am trying out many new slimming world recipes as my friend lent me a load of books mainly. So far they have all been delicious. Tonights was tenderstem broccoli fettuccine with my own add on of king prawns. It was very tasty, not good for low carb but i suppose could switch out the pasta.
I am also learning to navigate and use this site, so thank you Lytham for your help on how to post up a picture π

That looks amazing. Well done adding the prawns! We need protein.
But if you want to go low carb, I wouldn't start with slimming world recipes. They are high carb and low fat. If you cut out the carbs you have to replace it with fat (butter, olive oil, lots more cheese or make a creamy sauce π) or you will be hungry. At that point, it's a nearly completely different dish.
Ha lots of cheese does sound very tasty. Shame can't have best of both π€£Low carb isn't my aim, I enjoy a lot of carb foods and I know that will cause me to fail, plus I would be cooking different meals for my family. I am still finding my feet at min but i am looking at calorie counting and sticking to NHS recommended carbs fats etc.
You totally can have the best of both. Don't eat high carb and high fat (The Doughnut Diet) but if you reduce the carbs even a bit, you need to replace the calories with something. A smaller server of pasta tossed in olive oil is better than a larger serve anointed with passata for the same calories. The oil satiate you and less carbs means less insulin. Oh, but add the passata as well π
Serious question: why are you following the NHS recommendations? Over 50 years of this advice we have got fat, and they haven't produced any clinical studies or RCTs that prove it works.
That sounds amazing. I need to learn what is in the foods we eat and how much to have etc. I feel like i have got a grip of portion control now and still satisfied. And an added benefit not too full that i need a rest after eating so dishes done sooner π
Ha it does doesn't it π€£ There was 85g cooked pasta. Looks more as the tenderstem broccoli is mixed in and i left it in huge florets. My bowl isn't huge either just zoomed in.
Thank you. I'm still not sure on weight and portions so going with what looks enough at min. Very interested to see how i get on when i count cals π
I love this meal - it looks so scrumptious. I was also interested to see how much pasta you had in your portion - I've been weighing mine at 60g dry weight per person for a few years, but today I measured out 75g dry weight portion per person, as it's the weekend, and I fancied a bit more.
When I looked at the packet of penne pasta I used today - I noticed they recommend a portion is 100g, which seems like a very large portion size!
I tend to pre-cook mine and then re-heat, so that there is the effect of resistant starch, but I don't always do that.
I really like the Slimming world recipes - I sometimes treat myself to one of their magazines - I agree with you that the Tenderstem Broccoli Fettucine does indeed look delightful, as well as colourful and full of nutrients and flavours. Yum!
Congratulations on your weight loss, and hope you're enjoying the weekend.
100g is probably not a recommended serving. I think food manufacturers are obliged to include the nutrition for 100g even if that is not a standard serving size. So if they only list nutrition per 100g,they aren't suggesting how much you should eat, just complying with the law.
It's interesting, because I think (from my memory) that they put '5 portions' on the packaging (it was a 500g pack of penne pasta). I've thrown the package away now, so I can't re-check it, but next time I go shopping, I'll compare a few packages to see what they say. You could be right about what you've said, but I do think that portion recommendations vary.
I'm settling on 75g wholewheat pasta as my personal preference.
