Good morning!

Last Monday I weighed 13 stone 7.2 pounds, and today I weigh 13 stone 8.4 pounds, so I've gained 1.2 pounds this week. Although it is a gain, and I feel some sense of disappointment to see a gain on the scales, at the same time I am thinking that I did manage to keep to healthy eating choices this week, and I also managed to have a walk most days, and I did 2 outdoor jogs as well. I didn't manage to get to the gym though, so I am setting myself a goal for this week to go to the gym at least once, and ideally twice.

I know there's always a danger when I've gained some weight that my resolve to 'keep going' wanes a little, but I am going to try to challenge those thoughts and just keep trying to make the same healthy food choices and continue with my exercise, and I am hopeful that I will see a loss on next week's scales.

Good luck to everyone this week, and hope you all have a good week, and that you enjoy Bank Holiday Monday as well.

Please do join me and share your weigh-in experiences.

Hi Abels-Mummy,

Thanks for your encouragement. Well done to you for losing 2 inches off your hips. That's really great. Hopefully we'll both lose weight at next week's weigh in. Wishing you a great week.

Hello,

Maybe it's just your body working itself out after such a massive loss last week? If you're eating healthy and exercising it will start coming off again, next week will be a happier weigh in :)

I lost 3 lbs this week, making a total of 15lbs so I've lost my first stone, 8 more to go! Me and my dad have also booked a walking holiday in the lakes next month, it's the first time i've ever been happy to plan an active holiday, really hoping the scenery is an inspiration to get out on longer walks. I'm hoping to walk all the way around Wastwater which is about 7 miles (I think). I also hope that I can connect to wifi out there so I can log everything on MFP, I think I would find it difficult with out it.

Hi Kate,

Congratulations on losing your first stone (plus that extra pound on top!) - 3 pounds this week is amazing. Fantastic that you're going to enjoy a lovely holiday in the Lakes next month as well - should be really great exercise and beautiful scenery.

Thanks for your encouraging words, and I am going to stay 'on track' hopefully and am hoping for a loss next week.

Wishing you another great week ahead.

Hi Kate,

Well done on your weight loss, I have a similar amount to lose and that's a great start.

Your plan to walk round Wastwater brings back memories of my youth (40 years ago now) when me and 3 of my fellow student nurses did that. We were totally naive and totally ill equipped, but looking back now I feel quite a sense of achievement. I haven't done much like that since - probably why I need to diet! So enjoy your hol and keep up the good work.

Hello

I'm still hovering around 73 kg which is 11 st 6 lbs. On the whole, 1 lb 3/4 lb lost since Easter Monday.

We were away Saturday, back Sunday. We bought sandwiches from Waitrose at motorway services on the way up. I discovered I can only eat one egg-and-cress sandwich and some fruit, left the other sandwich until the way back. We'd had boiled egg and toast before we left, then the sandwiches and fruit, and nothing else until our meal in the evening. It was a traditional pub meal - soup and bread (tomato soup but a bit too peppery) then roast beef or chicken. I didn't fancy any of the veg. Why does so much veg end up looking completely tired and uninspiring? I ate some of the meat, and a small Yorkshire pudding, and a roast potato. The cheesecake to follow was very nice, and it was just about the first 'sweet' sweet that I've eaten for ages.

On the motorways, unless you go to Waitrose or M&S it is almost all 'fast food' or 'meal deals' and none of them include any fruit. I have seen some really obese people, and I mean, really obese. But with that limited choice of things to eat, no wonder.

Saturday was a wash-out and I mean - a wash-out. We didn't get to the famous statue at Tamworth Castle to meet our friends because by the time we got to the car park at the castle we saw a signpost telling us that it was a 1/4 mile walk to the castle. No chance! We met up with them all at the pub, the 'Globe' in Tamworth and we had English folk-songs after the meal. Very nice.

Next time we go away it will be to Switzerland, a couple of weeks from now.

Best wishes to all

Hi Margrete,

Well done for your weight loss since Easter Monday - you're doing really well. Glad you managed to catch your friends in Tamworth and enjoyed those English folk-songs after your meal. It was interesting to read your experiences of the motor-way establishments. Pity that those 'meal deals' don't contain much fruit.

It won't be long before you'll be preparing for your Switzerland trip - so hope you have a great week this week.

Hi Ali-May,

Glad you're pleased with your result on the scales. Congratulations! Hope you enjoyed your celebration weekends, and had a great time. Glad you were able to access some scales again, did you get yours working or did you have to get some new ones.

I've had a good week in terms of sticking to my goals, but haven't seen the weight come off yet - I gained 1.2 pounds this week... Oh well.. I remain positive - truely!

Have a great week.

hi there just wondering which eating plan/diet you are doing? like you I seem to gain not lose.

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply todenvajade

Hi Denvajade,

I think my eating plan has 'evolved' over time, and to describe it most easily, I would term it as 'healthy' - I tend to eat unprocessed foods, and I always try to ensure that half my plate has vegetables on it, and then I have some protein (usually fish or chicken), and some carbohydrate (sweet potato, or potato, rice, pasta or wholemeal bread) and some healthy fat (like olive oil). I also have some butter or soya margarine. Those are typically my evening meals. Another meal I often do is a stif-fry with lots of vegetables and some chicken or prawns. Really tasty. I do tend to enjoy a sweet dessert which is half a small hot pudding (like sticky toffee pudding) with some ice-cream and some squirty cream. I know that is a processed food, as it is usually made by the supermarket, but so far I've not been able to change that. I like it too much! I do have some fruit sometimes instead of a hot dessert.

For breakfast I have cereal with soya milk, and I ensure I just have 40g cereal. Or I have a portion of porridge. I rarely eat anything else till lunch, as the cereal or porridge fills me up. For lunch I tend to have something like scrambled egg on toast, or poached eggs on toast, or a small salad, or a sandwich made with wholemeal bread. I also love to eat avocado for lunch - usually half of one with some basil leaves and tomato (tasty combination). I have an afternoon snack which can be plain yoghurt with some nuts and fruits (strawberries and blueberries and melon perhaps), or a small piece of homemade cake (bran fruit cake or cherry and almond cake) - but I tend to have the cake on the weekends rather than in the week.

I try to do regular exercise every day - usually a walk, and I try to get to the gym about twice a week (although didn't manage to get there at all last week!). I also like to do a jog outside a couple of times a week (although again I am not always managing that!).

My overall trend has been to lose weight over the last few years, but I do have weeks when it goes up as well, like this week.

I feel as if I'm on a healthy eating regime rather than a 'diet' - as I enjoy my food and feel I eat well most days. I also have a treat in the evening of a piece of chocolate with a cup of coffee and I always savour that chocolate and look forward to it.

How are you getting on yourself? You mentioned that you are tending to gain rather than lose - are you doing any particular plan?

Hope you have a good week.

Thank you for replying, your eating plan sounds great, up until a few of years ago I did not have a weight problem, would always liked to be abit smaller, I then got diagnosed with rheumatiod arthritis and been on chemo drug and just got heavier no matter what I did, ww, high protein etc. About 18months ago something happened to my body and in five days I put on 7kgs in total I am 11-13kgs heavier,I look 9months preg and the doctors thought I had liver cancer, then ovarian cancer and so we went on, but I had none of those, had many tests and the closest answer they have finally come to is that my liver is compromised due to 7.5 years of weekly chemo and my body is not metabolising fats and carbs, as you can imagine I am at my wits end as I dont know how or what to eat, my diet is egg on toast for breakfast, salad and chicken for lunch and veges an meat for dinner, later at night I eat yoghurt or like you I have a piece of chocolate. certainly not alot of food as I cant digest it. cheers

Hi Denvajade,

Wow, you have certainly been through the mill with your health - very difficult for you that you are so restricted with what you can eat, but at least you have found somethings that you CAN eat, and those things sound healthy to me.

Hope your week is going ok so far. Good luck with it.

Hi Lowcal

Yes May has been a bit like Christmas lots of 'dos' and a great holiday in Scotland for my birthday.

Re the scales they had to be binned I'm afraid so at the weekend I bought some just basic ones from Boots they will do the job as well as the all singing/dancing ones you can buy. What I am going to try for a change is to weigh myself in pounds rather than stones or kilos. So for the month of June I will see if it will motivate me to do a bit better.

Thanks for your reply

Hi Ali-May,

I usually use pounds and stones rather than kilos. I find it easier! I hope it motivates you more, trying that change. Glad to hear you've got some good scales - basic can be fine. Glad you had a good time celebrating your Birthday.

Hi Lowcal, don't be downhearted - the exercise will be making you healthier and fitter even if you don't see a drop in the scales right now (but I know what you mean about resolve waning when it's not going the way you'd hope). This week I lost 2 lbs so I've lost 1/2 stone so far. This week is half-term so that means very little chance of doing any proper exercise and sticking to my calorie limit is more difficult. Have a good week everyone.

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply toHopegirl

Hi Hopegirl,

Congratulations on losing 2 pounds - wow, and reaching the half stone marker as well - that's so great! Hope you cope ok with half-term, at least you've identified it as a 'challenging' time so that means you can be more 'prepared'.

Thanks for your encouraging words - I do feel fitter for the exercise and I have noticed that my clothes are getting baggier! I tend to do my measurements on 6th of each month, so I will wait a while before I know if I've lost any inches, but I think it is possible this time.

Have a great week.

Hi all low cal just think of it as a smaller weight loss last week, I am guessing my weight as I usually weigh in with no clothes first thing, mid day clothed I was 11st so have taken off 1lb so am recording 10.13 this week, hoping to maintain as it has been a long weekend, have a good week girliesxx

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply toPrin

Hi Prin,

Congratulations on getting below 11 stone again! That's brilliant. Yes, you're right, I should just look at it as a smaller weight loss last week - good idea!

Hope you have a good week.

Hi Low cal, don't be down with yourself. You've done well to stick to your plan. Some weeks are like that. I weighed in and put on 1 lb so now 10.12, I was 10.7 on Easter Sunday so I need to get back on the right path. I'm fed up with my belly hanging over the side of my jeans so this week I'm committing myself to eat better and exercise. Had a pow wow on Saturday with friends, so we've decided to do the local Race for Life at the end of June, so need to start a bit of training.

Let's get back on it and get these pounds off !!!! Have a great week everyone.

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply toThistle72

Hi Thistle72,

Glad your pow wow with your friends went well - you've got a shared goal now doing the Race for Life and I am sure that will be extremely motivating - like you say, you've got a training regime to get to grips with in preparation. Good luck with it! The pounds should drop off as a result, and before you know it, you'll be back below 10 stone 7 pounds in no time...!

Thanks for your motivating words, and support, and have a great week.

I too got on the scales to find I'd gained a couple of lbs so I sympathise. :-( However I know why I have - why is it when I'm not feeling well I eat? All my friends go off food if they're not well. Oh well new week. I'm also trying the Michael Mosley exercise plan as I bought a 2nd hand exercise bike. Even I can fit in 6mins of exercise 3 times a week!

Do any of you have the problem of a husband who has hardly changed weight since his teens, and when he does put on a few pounds manages to lose it 'just like that' ? So frustrating!

Wishing you all a good week.

ZestHealthy BMI in reply toMatron60

Hi Matron60,

I hope you are feeling much better this week - sorry to hear you weren't feeling well last week - understandable that you ate more than normal. I know a lot of people go off their food, but comfort eating can also happen, can't it. Like you said, it's a new week! Good luck with the Michael Mosley exercise plan - great that you have your exercise bike.

Must be frustrating to have a husband like yours, who has hardly changed weight since his teens.

Have a great week.

I started my diet again today, I'm 64 so have done this many times before! At one point I lost 7 stone(put weight on due to being a wheelchair user for 4 years) Then I had 2 knee replacements in 1 year, and that's when I started to lose my weight .I was so glad to read your post just the thing I need to keep me motivated. My weight is slowly creeping up, I have lost 5 Lbs since January! But now I'm making a conscious effort I was 13 st 12.4 Lbs on Monday so here goes!

Hi Sera3,

Really glad you joined us today Sera. Don't be hard on yourself, as you've lost 5 pounds since January and that is getting close to half a stone already! You've had a lot on your plate with the 2 knee replacements in one year - are you able to exercise ok?

Wishing you a great week, and hopefully you will start to lose more weight now that you're making a conscious effort to lose.
