Good morning!

Last Monday I weighed 13 stone 8.8 pounds, and today I weigh 13 stone 8.8 pounds, so I've maintained my weight and stayed the same. I am very surprised by this, because I ate too many Easter treats (chocolate Easter eggs) during the week as well as having a couple of meals out, and I thought I was going to gain weight as a result. However I did keep up my exercise and I tried to choose healthy meals wherever possible.

I haven't got any Easter chocolate left over now, so I am relieved about that, and I'm looking forward to getting back on track again this week and would definitely like to lose some weight before the next weigh-in. I'm going to try to lose between 1 and 2 pounds.

Please do join me for this Monday weigh-in, and share your experiences. Good luck to everyone with their weight loss journeys and hope the week is a good one!

Hi Helenbrunn,

Congratulations on your 2 pound weight loss, that's so great! What a good start to the week, and good luck with increasing your exercises over the coming week.

Hope the sun keeps shining in Rhodes. Hopefully it will shine here too - it's been a bit overcast.

Have a great week.

I usually weigh in on a Monday, and although I don't know what I have lost (if anything in the last week - I tend to ignore weeks where I haven't lost anything, and I've stopped being as careful with my food recently) I am now down to 11s12 - thus I've lost 12lbs since the beginning of the year. Very slow but I am pleased. Just 2lbs to go for my first stone. Good luck everyone :)

Hi ZoomZoom,

Wow, it's great that you've lost 12 pounds since the beginning of the year. Brilliant! Not long now till you get to your first stone. Are you going to do anything special to celebrate that?

Hope you have another good week this week.

Good morning I have not been good either with weight or pain. One thing after another, had a fall, waiting for husbands ct results which has been so wording and I do what I have always done. EAT push my feelings down then feel even worse. On a positive note today is start of new week, sun is out and I know its up to me to help myself so trying to do all positive thongs I know. I have been reading reports from you all and I wish everyone a good start to Monday morning.

Hi Peacerose,

Sorry to hear you've had a difficult week - hope you are ok after your fall, and hope that you hear the results of your husband's ct soon - it must be worrying waiting for those, but hopefully you'll hear soon.

Emotional eating is definitely a challenge, and I am pleased to hear that you're feeling more positive today - hopefully that positivity will stand you in good stead for the beginning of the week and you will have a better week.

Thank you not been an excellent day but better than last week. Thanks for support how did d your weigh in go?

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply to

Hi Peacerose,

Glad to hear your day was better than last week. Hopefully you'll have a few more days like that to come. I didn't change my weight this week, I stayed the same, but I felt positive about that because I had over-eaten in terms of chocolate Easter eggs and a couple of meals out, so I was relieved not to have gained weight.

Morning all,

I lost 3lb last week. Quite surprised because I visited friends and we went out for meals etc and I wasn't able to keep track of the calories. But I didn't eat/drink as much as I would pre-NHS plan - it's obviously made me more aware of what passes my lips! I'm 4lb away from a healthy BMI now, which is starting to feel achievable. My goal this week is to maintain my new weight by sticking to 1400calories and exercise. Have a lovely week everyone.

Hi Burntsun,

Good morning! Wow, you've lost 3 pounds - that's incredible. Well done! I hope you enjoyed your meals out as well. You'll be soon at your healthy BMI - hope you have another good week and that you enjoy it.

Lowcal :-)

in reply toburntsun

Well done to you to just shows if you try hard what you can do.

Congratulations on all the weight losses and maintains! I am really struggling at the minute, I have lost 11stone 9lbs over the last three years and now at target but finding it so difficult to maintain. I am very much an emotional eater and stress eater, its been a bad week stress wise so food has been consumed in ridiculous quantities, most of it 'healthy food', salads, extra vegetables, lean ham etc but it all adds up to extra calories. I am determined to take control again today. Have a good week everyone!

burntsun profile image
burntsunMaintainerRestart Feb 20246kg in reply to

Hi Susiespost,

Congratulations for being at target - to loose 11s9lb is an amazing achievement and a great inspiration.

I'm also very much an emotional eater, and little - almost indiscernible - stresses will trigger my desire for comfort food. (An example is that I got beeped at last week when crossing the road in heavy traffic, which made me feel a little embarrassed. 15 minutes later and I had a huge craving for chips!) I think the key to changing this behavior is to become aware of what sets it off, and how I typically respond. Once I know this, I hopefully will be able to swap other "comforts" for the food I'm currently using (on that occasion I bought myself some art materials rather than chips, but I'm not always that successful). It's tricky initially because it means being alert. However, I'm hoping that with time it becomes second nature.

This is a good post on the subject:

Have a lovely week! burntsun

Hi Susiespost,

I second what Burntsun said about your amazing achievement in losing 11 stone 9 pounds in the last three years. That is amazing.

Sorry to hear you've had a stressful week, but at least the food you consumed was mainly 'healthy food' - that is positive.

Hopefully you will have a better week this week, and congratulations again on your amazing achievements.

What a fantastic loss well done! This thread has helped me maintain I know good or bad, I will be on the scales every Monday to report some times I really don't feel like it but it keeps me aware. My weight has been pretty steady since September but I live not exist, and this time, (the 3rd time I have lost weight ) the first time I lost 5st and put back on 3st, the lost 2st and put back 1st and I never really had a goal, it's good that you do. This last time I had a goal and kept going till I reached it and some. I have come back from my holidays this time and lost whatever I gained where as previously it was just start regaining, also helped this time I have cleared my entire wardrobe of anything size 14 and above (aside two coats!) I also exercise more this time so I can help ward off the inevitable gin and tonics of a weekend!

Last Monday I received a book from Amazon, not by Royal Mail who were on Bank Holiday, delivered by someone else. I've spent a week following the method outlined in the book, 'The New High Protein Diet' by Dr Charles Clark. I've lost 2.2 pounds since last Monday.

I have tried various methods of weight loss over the past few years. The NHS method as outlined on this site does not work for me, nor does calorie-counting, nor WeightWatchers nor Slimming World. It appears that this one does, so I intend to stick with it and see what happens.

I don't eat chocolate in any form, certainly not as Easter eggs, but we are going to Switzerland in June. The last time we briefly visited Switzerland the customs man on the way out seemed surprised and disappointed that we hadn't bought any Swiss chocolate. 'What? None at all!' No indeed.

Need to go out now to get some more green veg.

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply tomargrete

Hi Margrete,

Congratulations on losing 2.2 pounds - that is really good. At least you didn't have the challenge of having to avoid the chocolate Easter eggs, as you don't eat chocolate in any form. That would certainly save you quite a few calories!

I have made some soup for lunch today from some carrots, leeks and onions that I had bought. It was really tasty and will last for another lunch at least. I try to eat lots of vegetables with my evening meal, but generally didn't have many for lunch - so I'm trying to up my intake by including them at lunchtimes as well. I was interested in the recent study at the London University (UCL) which recommended lots of vegetables and fruit.

I don't know anything about the High Protein Diet that you've mentioned, but it sounds like you are finding the book useful, and you've tried many things in the past. I am not a dietician but I think I would be a bit concerned about eating high protein because most healthy regimes involve a mix of foods, and tend to keep the protein part of the meal to a smaller part of the plate. I know that some people who followed the Atkin's diet (which I think was also advocating high protein) ended up with some health complications, so I hope that the man who wrote your book has considered those things.

Hope you have a great week.

Thank you for this. Well, just to give a bit of background, for breakfast I had one fried egg on a slice of wholemeal bread. We had lunch quite late and I had 2 chicken pieces baked in the oven and quite a lot of broccoli. We shared a large orange between us. Both those meals filled me up and I couldn't have managed anything else. Last week we went out for St George's Day and we took a picnic with us. The picnic, in our 2 individual plastic boxes, was really a substantial meal. There was everything in there! Sliced hard-boiled egg, a bit of cheese, a bit of ham, lettuce, baby tomatoes and then, little oranges. Dr Clark is a medical man, I believe he practises in Australia, and he gives reasons for everything he suggests.

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply tomargrete

Hi Margrete,

You certainly sound like you're choosing some healthy meal choices, and the food sounds delicious and filling. It certainly doesn't sound anything like the Atkins diet, which seemed to advocate lots and lots of meat and fats, and seemed very unbalanced. Your food choices sound good.

Have a great week.

Lowcal :-)

margrete profile image
margrete in reply toZest

Thank you for this. It does advocate 'healthy' fats, and protein. Most days I have one slice of wholemeal toast at breakfast, with English butter, along with scrambled egg or whatever else we have. Proteins are the building-blocks of tissue, as you know. I have tried numerous other systems, with little or no success, and I am not good at calorie-counting. We are just about to have some stewed plums for tea.

Yes, we did, they were lovely. We didn't want anything else for the rest of the day! This morning I've had 2 bacon rashers, mushrooms, a grilled tomato, one slice of walnut bread from the farm shop we went to yesterday. Very nutritious and long-lasting.

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply tomargrete

Hi Margrete,

Yes, this is one of the 'speciality breads' that they do at the farm shop which we visit. It's something I could eat to excess if I'm not careful - everything in moderation.

It is my first day of my diet, I weigh 15 stone 2lbs. I have just been to see the nurse, my bp is down, I have recently lost 6lbs but put on 4lbs. I cycle 3 miles a day.

Hi everyone,

Well I'm pleased to say that this week I can finally report a loss - 7lbs. I'm now 12st. Last week I jumped off the scales and went shopping!! Since then I've eaten well and cut out all the things I know don't suit me (mostly wheat based things, like twinkle2s). It feels very strict at first but by the end of last week I was feeling much more energetic and my body felt healthier so that is my motivation to stick to it. I think I lost so much in a week because it's weight that I kept putting on and losing since new year so I'm not expecting the same again next week but hopefully a small loss of 1-2 lbs would be good. I'd love to leave my 12stone-ness behind.

My back has been quite painful so not really done much exercise apart from some slow walks with the dog but it seems (for me) that what I put in far outweighs exercise so until I'm healed I will just try to watch what I'm eating.

Hope everyone has a good week!!

Well down Lowcal for staying the same - against difficult circumstances.

I'm finally back on track - last checked in on April 7th, and since then have lost 9 lbs, so am now 14 st 13 lbs. - still a way to go until I get to my pre Christmas weight, but at least it's started to go down again.

Today was an 'away day' with work and the company's 10th anniversary - so yummy chocolate cake. Not a good day for eating healthily. I am now paying the price and feeling bloated and sluggish - good reminder.

Good luck with the coming week everyone.

Hi Bispers,

Great to see you back, and brilliant that you've lost 9 pounds since 7th April, that's really great. I'm so pleased for you.

I think that chocolate cake is the most difficult of cakes to resist. One change I made this year, was that instead of having a chocolate cake for my Birthday, I decided to choose one day when I went with my husband to a really nice Pattiserie shop and we both chose a delicious piece of chocolate cake to eat. We did the same when it was my husband's Birthday, and so instead of eating our way through 2 chocolate Birthday cakes, we only consumed 2 pieces of cake (one on each Birthday). It was really enjoyable to do that, as we really enjoyed the taste of the cake so much more just having that one piece.

Hope you have a great week.

Went for a run today feeling very unfit however feeling positive about it getting easier. Missing chocolate WAY too much! Any tips on how to cure a chocolate craving without the chocolate???

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply toronnieley

Hi Ronnieley,

Welcome to the weigh-in, and hope you have a great first week ahead. It's great that you've started with a run yesterday, I hope you find it easier as you get more into it. I remember the first time I went running, and it was quite a shock to my system. I now really enjoy running - although I don't do it as regularly as I would like.

Regarding chocolate, I can't give you a tip on curing a chocolate craving without the chocolate - I don't tend to deprive myself of chocolate as I like it too much. What I tend to do is have one piece of chocolate a day - I have it after my evening meal and with a cup of coffee, and I choose my favourite chocolate (which happens to be white chocolate Lindt at the moment) and I thoroughly savour the taste. So I don't deprive myself of chocolate, but I do restrict how much I have.

I have seen other people mention that they like to have low calorie drinking chocolate drinks to enable them to enjoy the taste with less calories. If you posted your question in the 'Question' section of this site, then I am sure you would get several replies with suggestions.

Hope you have a great week.

Hi Concerned & Carolann48,

I was interested to see your discussion. I have switched my choice of yoghurt a while ago from low-fat yoghurts to now choosing the ones that contain fat - I usually choose the natural yoghurt rather than flavoured. I have noticed that any product that is labelled as 'low-fat' tends to have lots of sugar with it to compensate for the lack of fat.

I tend to use healthy fats like olive oil for cooking and I also regularly have butter with my bread.

However, I am still choosing to have sugary desserts - e.g. I often choose syrup sponge pudding or chocolate pudding or sticky toffee pudding (although I only eat half a small pudding as a portion) - but I suspect that I should really try to choose a healthier dessert to reduce the amount of sugar that I consume even in that pudding.

However, I do think it's difficult to cut out sugary foods. Can I ask you (Concerned) what foods you tend to eat as desserts, or don't you choose to have desserts as a rule?

Have you tried Goats Milk Yoghurt? It's the lowest in Carbs/Sugar I have found. St Helens FF Goats Milk Yoghurt (Sold in Tesco) is just 3.2% sugar. I have it as a Post Run/Cardio Snack with Frozen Blueberries, which if you mix with the yoghurt, kind of half freeze it which can be a pleasant change.

Also in theory the longer you leave live Yoghurt before eating the less sugar it will contain because the live cultures feed off the Lactose, useless fact really but perhaps interesting :)

I love that Goat's Milk Yoghurt. :) It is one the new things I have tried since starting to lose weight and get healthy. I usually buy it instead of plain cow's milk yoghurt to eat with savoury food (e.g. curry).

I'm glad to know it is also one of the lowest in Carbs/Sugar as well as being delicious.

Hi Albionjen,

Great to know you also recommend that yoghurt - I will definitely try it.

Hi OlsBean,

I've not tried the Goats Milk Yoghurt, but I will certainly give it a try after your recommendation, and I also appreciated the information about how the live cultures feed off the Lactose - it sounds fascinating so thank you!

Hope you are well and having a good week.

204.4lbs this week, down 1.2lb from last week and down from 238lbs on 27th December. Over half way to goal of 175lbs. Also started C25K today, nearly killed me, but I did it!

Hi Aztecchic,

Great to hear you are losing weight - a slow loss is a healthy loss, and it's great that you're also doing C25K. I think running is such great exercise.

Hope you are having another good week.

My first 'weigh in'! I have been weighing around 14 stone plus for a while. I weighed on Saturday and was exactly 14 stone, after a run and better eating, this morning I am 13.13, (although it was 13.12 yesterday) so more runs / jog /walking this week and hopefully next Monday will be much better. First time I feel motivated for ages and that's because of the inspiration  and support on this site. Thank you x
