I went to the docs this morning for check and he weighed me. Seems my own scales are nearly a stone out and I'm nearly a stone heavier than I thought I was! It was a big shock. Hopefully, with a bit of discipline, willpower...
I've just joined this forum. Was diagn... - Weight Loss Support
I've just joined this forum. Was diagnosed with under active thyroid in Dec and have been on Thyroxine since. Weight has been creeping up.
I had that experience with my scales too! At first I thought it was the doctor's scales but then I bought new scales and knew for sure it was mine! Just a few pounds though, a whole stone must have been a shock. But good luck with losing the weight, I have lost about 20pounds and it's starting to creep back on so I'm back on the wagon again! Just step by step once you start losing weight you'll be so motivated ! Liz
Not nice to find out heavier. I joined last week trying hard
on Monday. Good luck
Hi marinegirl,
I was diagnosed with under active thyroid few years ago. My personal opinion is that in general I gain weight easier than the most people do, but I did not have any side-effects of the treatment on my weight. I just have to be very, very careful to eat healthy and moderately and to exercise.
Hi I have the same problem put 3 stones on now, Still have all the symptoms even with taking thyroxine.Saw Dr yesterday asking to go on natural desiccated thyroid but he says no as it is unstable.I am waiting to see a specialist but that could take some time. Some will prescribe it most wii not but my hopes are resting on that at the moment.Sugest that you join Thyroid uk where you will get support but trying to lose weight with under active thyroid is all but impossible,I have spent a year at Slimming World & 8 moths at Weight Watchers & the only thing any lighter is my purse.
I don't think it's impossible to losse it's just harder. I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid back in july last year. I started dieting in january and have lost nearly 2.5st.
I am so pleased that you are managing to lose weight I so wish that I could and am very depressed at the moment, aching all over, pains and swelling in hands and feet.I have to wait now to see a Specialist and am hoping to get put on natural desiccated thyroid but hav'nt even got an appointment yet and that could take 18 weeks,
Did you follow a specific plan to lose the weight? I'm on a calorie controlled diet and working out (mainly cardio) for 1 - 1.5 hours a day 5 days a week and I just cannot lose anything- not even a pound. My trainer has no experience in hypothyroidism so can't understand my dilemma or offer me any advice. Please help!
Slimming world and WW won't work well for those with a thyroid problem they are not flexible enough. Their consultants are trained to get you eating the max they can so you lose as slowly as possible, if you count calories you can lose weight my husband has done it. But you need to unlearn the rubbish they teach you at the club's like free foods or 0 point foods you have to count everything fruit veg gravy squash everything.
I'm sure u can do it but the failures at the club's reinforce our beliefs that we can't do it. Start again and forget what they have taught you and you can do it
Good luck, get yourself some good digital kitchen scales and either weigh yourself in Boots or get some digital bathroom scales. They don't need gimmicks in fact simpler the better. My husbands thyroid failed totally and it took a year or so to get his thyroxine stabilised. In the end he was 19 stone but felt quite well and sane. He gradually lost weight by dieting, I won't pretend it was easy, but he tackled it by losing a stone then maintaining for a while till he understood how much he could eat then losing another stone and so on. You probably will never be able to eat as much as you used to but age has a lot to do with that too, we all need less as we get older. My hubby is now about 15 stone, he is more active now too, not the gym but round the garden and house and walking further. Take it one week at a time and find what is right for you and good luck
