I need to loose 9 stone just to get into a healthy bmi that's about 144 pounds that will take me nearly 3 years😢

Easy does it. Set yourself small goals. Eat well and start to exercise at you own pace. Do not go on a crash diet as you will put it back as soon as you stop. Good luck and good on you for wanting to do this

Well done for starting, this site a great place for encouraging each other and for getting advice, so bite size chunks is the best way star E. First 1lb, 3lb, 5lb,7lb etc really helped me!

Hi. My target was to lose 8 and a half stone. I started in September 2014 at slimming world. I've lost 6 stone 1 1/2 so far. You can do it, set small targets that's helps x

Hi Aht, I know it sounds daunting but some people on here are having amazing weight loss as they alter their routines to fit more exercise in as they start to lose weight. It doesn't matter how long it takes, what matters is learning how to eat and live healthily and making that your habit.

I i moved house last August and had to register with a new GP who asked to weigh me -22st 8 Lbs -since then I have lost 3st 4Lb ( 4 lbs since starting on this site 2 weeks ago )I must admit I found it hard to start exercising because I was so overweight however even a 10 minute walk is better than nothing.the comments posted here are great -just reading about how other people are getting on and the advice given is great -as one member stated even 1lb is half a bag of sugar !!

Take each day as it comes -if you have a bad day don't give up -it's just a glitch.

I find it's better to think about how much youv'e lost rather than how long it will take or how much you have to lose it makes me feel more positive.

Keep positive and I 'lol look out for your post next week.

It sounds like a long haul - and ok, it is - but you will start to feel so much better as the weight comes off. Can you get support from a nurse or Dr at your GP? They'll be so pleased that you're trying hard, and regular weigh ins will give you shorter targets to aim at. Apart from that, join a thread here - you'll get lots of support from people - we're all in it together, and someone else will have felt just the same way as you when they started out.

Just remember losing weight is a marathon and not a sprint, lose the weight slowly, no faddy diets and exercise (even moving around more indoors helps if you don't like exercise, I like swimming and walking but you'd never see me in a gym or running!). Try to only eat when hungry and make good choices, read labels and reduce your carbs a bit, for total carb content (ignore the "of which sugars" bit - sugar is a carb and is therefore included in the total figure).

Take it at an even pace, small goals and if you slip back a bit, don't panic, just write off that day and carry on again. Good luck

Small steps to gain momentum and then the more momentum you gain the better your results will be. I've lost a large amount of weight in a short space of time because I made positive healthier lifestyle choices rather than any dieting fads. No point in doing a diet fad if you don't see yourself sticking to it forever. Healthy eating and get exercising! I started off 3 days a week at the gym to now going 6 times a week because now I enjoy it and I see the weight dropping off me. I intentionally didn't look at my healthy BMI target or I would have felt really daunted. I just keep going and going, week to week, month to month, all the lbs lost add up.

Good luck in your journey! It's is NOT impossible. Eat healthier and exercise more.

You've been given some really good tips already about losing weight. I don't think it will take you 3 years but even if it did, you'd be fit and happy. If you don't start you'll probably end up even more overweight.

Remember..... You didn't wake up one morning and find yourself 9st overweight. It's crept on gradually so that's how you need to lose it.

You need to change to a healthy eating plan which is going to suit you .. For ever. Not just a diet. My friend has lost 4 St in a year so once you start losing weight you'll be motivated to lose even more.

Some goods apps to help you .... My Fitness Pal to log all your food and exercise. Map My Walk will track your walking if you start that as an exercise. Little and often is best with exercise , it works for me anyway.

So start today.... Buddy up with someone and set some small achievable goals.

Having recently reached my goal weight with weightwatchers (2 weeks ago) I was all ready to give you paragraphs of advice, but you know what, after reading the others comments from people they've already said it all. It took me 2 years to lose 3 stone but I faffed big time. Once I did weightwatchers properly and added couch to five k, everything fell into place. Losing weight I found wasn't so much eating less, we all know that, it was changing my lifestyle and developing good habits. The most important of which was beginning to run. I am not an exercise fan but it gets to you big time. I had a tumble a couple of weeks ago and haven't been able to run and I hate to say it but I miss it, badly. It is also clearly evident that it makes a big difference in terms of weight!

So as everyone has said, take it one step at a time, develop good habits slowly and you will be surprised at how quickly things happen. I am excited for you. Keep us all updated, I am keen to hear your progress

3 years out of the rest of your life is probably very little. Remember you'll weigh less and less as each month passes so it won't always be 9 st over 3 years. Keep the determination and be positive. Will follow your progress.

Hey welcome to the group. It can be very daunting when starting with such an amount to lose, i started with 9 stone to lose as well, so feel your pain. Best advice is break it down into smaller goals, i never look past the next stone. In the last 20 weeks i have lost 3 and a half stone. so it can be done. Yes at times it can be hard but so worth it. Dont look at it taking 3 years as you say very overwhelming. Look at it that you are making lifestyle changes and not dieting. Changes that you can make that last in the long term will make it much easier for you as the good choices become habit. If you would like a buddy that you can message who understands where you are at right now, i am more than happy to help if i can. Also so many helpful, supportive people on this group. Even if support in the "real world" is limited, here there is always someone to cheer you on, you couldnt find a nicer group of people to support you. Start small and keep records, i found the nhs 12 week plan a great place to start, as it has charts you can use. Have you decided how you are going to do it? I calorie count using an app called Myfitnesspal it is a godsend as you can scan barcodes and find most foods on there and best of all it is completely free :)

Hi Daunted,

I started losing weight on July 4th 2014 and to December 05 2014 I had lost 3 stone 7 pounds while doing a very sedate job and no exercise. So forget the 3 year idea, if you are committed and really focused about losing weight you will be able to accomplish it in a much shorter time. I stuck to a 1500 calorie a day diet with one free day a week and found it a good diet (for me anyway).

Hi there hold your head up as I've always struggled with my weight for health reasons I've had to go on a strict diet with no saturated fat as my cholestrol is 7.5 that's high as I'm only 37 and I have high blood pressure etc so I have really been strict with myself and I've lost just under 2 stone in 2 months and my cholestrol is down to 4 just over so if I can do this anyone can and I will give you a little tip which has helped me definatly. Drink boiled water each morning with fresh lemon juice sqeezed into it of 1 lemon I've done it every morning for nearly 2 months I know it's not long but I've realised I need to change all my bad habits and if I didn't I would suffer ( not fair on my girls) sorry if I have sounded boring but I'm just trying to give you a little help as your target feels so far away I know how you feel honestly speak soon take care Liz

One step at a time. It may seem an impossible goal but first aim for 2 pounds a week and as the pounds drop off you will notice your clothes that

feel looser and you have more energy. I promise you as you progress you will feel more positive. Perhaps your doctor or practice nurse a can give you some helpful advice. If not I'm here to listen and help if I can.

Break it down to small goals otherwise it will seem insurmountable. Start with a target of half a stone and build on that. But keep in touch with the forum for support. Good luck

Hello, I put a chart on my bedroom wall , and every pound I lose I cross it off , so I see it every morning , when I reach small goals I treat myself , ie a nice pair of earrings or makeup ! Good luck with your weight loss xxxx
