I have lost nearly 4 stone, my clothes all look terrible. When should I go shopping as I still have 8 stone to go? What did all you big losers do? It's a good problem to have, I am excited for the future but can't just rush out and buy too much.
When to buy new clothes??: I have lost... - Weight Loss Support
When to buy new clothes??
First of all, congratulations on a fantastic weight loss so far. I appreciate that you don't want to spend a fortune as ultimately, you will be shrinking out of your new clothes too. How do you feel about a couple of charity shop treasures? Once it's been through your washing machine it's yours. I'm getting quite addicted to finding a designer bargain. You could take your clothes that are hanging off you so that you have space for everything.
I got a designer 100% cashmere cardigan for £1.75!! It should be considerably more than that.
You don't say what size you now need but Primark is good too if you prefer this option. Xx. Happy shopping. Xx
I think I would prefer charity to Primark. They might be better made. It's a good idea!
Be prepared to sift through some rubbish but there will be the basics like smart black trousers, this was what I had to replace first. I have found some lovely charity shops where you are hard pushed to tell if you're in a proper dress shop. All the clothes are on wooden hangers and it smells pleasant too!!
I haven't done this so feel free to ignore me! What a wonderful problem to have though, well done! If it was me, I think I'd buy one or two things that you can use a lot - maybe jeans if you wear them, or a single posh frock that when you put it on makes you feel good! Make use of a clothes exchange if you have one nearby, you can then effectively swap clothes in as you get new, smaller ones out - basically a posher version of the charity shop idea, but you might make some money on your returns.
Let us know what you get. I hope you find something that makes you feel fabulous...
Thanks. Because I have been a size 22/24 for 20 years it feels so weird to be fitting in a 18/20.
Onwards and downwards...
But eeek! What a result...
I have a friend (size practically nothing), who always looks incredibly stylish. Whenever I ask her about a particular item she will tell me it came from "Croix Rouge boutique"... that's the Red Cross shop to the rest of us!
4 stone is an awesome loss! I'd say you've earned a shopping trip! Why don't you concentrate on getting a few essentials that fit the new you really well, and that you would wear a lot. You can always make up the rest of your wardrobe with charity shop bargain hunting, but a perfectly fitting pair of jeans or a jacket will make you feel great. What a splendid problem to have! Well done x
I think you have also earned a non food reward like a treat at the hairdressers or beauticians too. You have worked so hard and you deserve a spot of pampering. Xx
I think it would be good to buy some basics that fit well. I would hope to be properly in an 18 by March. Feel motivated to keep going! Thanks for replies.
I know what you mean... I bought some size 20 jeans just before Xmas and there now falling off me.. ... think I need to buy a new belt to keep them up ! I'm not going to buy anything new now unless it's for a special occasion.. I look in the charity shops for kids stuff but never think to look for myself as being a bigger size there was never much in my size or my style but now I'm a smaller size there might be more choice !
Also maybe look on ebay for some bargains until you reach your goal size x !
What a lovely problem to have! Very well done EllaMidlands ☺ I am another charity shop fan ☺ and just think, you can return them all when you need an even smaller size ☺☺☺
4 stone, that's a fantastic achievement, well done. I think you deserve to treat yourself to one new outfit at least - it will make you feel great. How long has it taken you to loose the weight?
Try out those charity shops. My wardrobe is full of fab bargains from them. As you drop sizes you don't want to be spendiing lots of money . I'm sure you will find some nice fitting clothes and don't forget to try clothes with a bit of shape in them, to show of that slimmer figure. I do the charity shops once a week it's amazing nobody knows where you get your clothes unless you tell them. It does become very addictive 😜.
I quite like the idea of hiding my weight loss under the usual baggy camouflage until I reach my target, then emerging transformed in a fabulous frock. Ah dream on.... Will probably settle for showing off when I've lost a stone.
I love the boutiques where they specialize in the one offs...... charity shops are my best friend 😊
I volunteer in a charity shop and am amazed at the mix of people who shop there. Most seem to be ladies who drive BMWs or Range Rovers and come from afar, or the local villagers who want a bargain. As you may guess, I too buy things from the charity shop. Just think of the charity you are helping too! You may one day need that charity to help you.
I have always given lots to charity but have only ever bought books there, need to look at the clothes. Thanks!
Another vote for charity shops but also Matalan and Tu (Sainsburys) are relatively cheap and seem better quality than Primark. Although I get things like different colour long sleeve tops at Primark and they're all fine still after much wear and washing. Do you have any markets near you? I've found great seconds at the market French Connection etc, got a Miss Sixty wool coat for £10, brand new just the label's been cut out. Go and treat yourself. It's not just finding things that fit, but finding a new style as your figure changes. Enjoy. And pics please if you find anything nice
I think you need some new bits, I lost 2st 4lbs and enjoyed stuff like new jeans and tops that weren't like maternity wear!
I've done two down sizes now, enough!
