It could be several things. Too much dairy or too many nuts can do it, so can stress and worry. This link has some advice.

Hi amandju,
I'd suggest that you look carefully at what you're eating - it's easy to not notice slightly upping your calorie intake either through "turning a blind eye" - which in fact many, many, people do - or though error, perhaps in misunderstand how calorific a food is, or perhaps in misunderstand what an appropriate portion of it is.
Bizarrely, many people when they compile a food diary, or count calories, "forget" to count at least some bits of their food intake.
However, it could just be muscle gain - muscle is actually heavier than fat - depending on just what exercise you're doing and how much, but that would be pretty obvious by just looking at yourself in the mirror. Have you really become significantly more muscly? As Concerned said, that's generally pretty unlikely.
Remember that many things can alter the way your hormones work, stress, sleeplessness, infections, etc., and your hormones control many body functions including such things as fat burn, fat storage, hunger feelings, sense of satiation. Most people's weight loss journey's have blips and spurts and I really wouldn't worry too much about two or three pounds over a couple of weeks.
But it may be worth, if you haven't already, asking your GP or practice nurse, if there is anything about your current medical conditions that might impinge upon your weight loss efforts or vice versa. I say that because you mention you're going to have a surgical procedure and I was kind of wondering if perhaps medication you might be on might be having an effect upon your food absorption.
Good luck with your weight loss efforts.
im on champix at the moment for t he not smoking ..... so i dont know whether its that doing it or the mere fact that im not smoking thats doing it
I gave up smoking 6 weeks ago, and have been on a diet since because I knew weight gain would be a problem. Most people gain about 5 pounds because your digestive system is working better. I haven't been able to lose anything yet (only just resorted to exercising yesterday so that might work). I keep reading drinking that water when quitting is really important re weight gain.
In August 2012 I watched a BBC Horizon programme that changed my life, "Eat, Fast and Live Longer" vimeo.com/54089463 and I really recommend you watch it too, and then you can feel free to ask me any questions. I lost three stone in six months and feel fantastic. No slimming clubs or expensive diet foods either!
It could be an increase in muscle as that weighs more than fat. Especially as you've upped your exercise.
