Period pains whilst on contraception (suffering from Amenorrhea)

Hi, I'm new to posting and have been diagnosed with PCOS for 5 years. I have amenorrhea and cysts on both ovaries :(

I've been on the combined pill under the care of Gynae and that went "well" as I had a withdrawal bleed etc but had issues with weight-control with it so I'm now trying the contraceptive patch.

I was under the impression that it would work the same way as the combined pill just a higher dose of oestrogen compared to the pill I was on (mercilon) and straight to the bloodstream instead. However, this is my first patch-free week and the period pains I'm experiencing are excruciating - I've never felt anything like this before.

Has anyone who suffers from amenorrhea suffered from excruciating period pain whilst taking contraception?
