Hi!

I'm not familiar with Clomid so I can't offer any experiences with it but did struggle with Metformin for the better part of a year, took a break and retried before giving up.

I was prescribed Metformin as it has been proven to curb appetite and promote weight loss in those with PCOS who are struggling with their weight as a part of the symptoms they experience.

At a lower dose the cramps and diarrhea eventually eased off but so did the effect and so my dose was increased - twice. I discovered that in order to have consistent results, for me, the required dose wasn't something my body was able to tolerate as the side effects were so bad I literally couldn't be more than a few feet from a toilet as when I had to go I had to rush to the toilet. I found it seriously impacted my ability to work effectively (as without warning, multiple times a day I had to run to the toilet with severe diarrhea) and my quality of life as everything had to be planned around the location of an easily accessible toilet.

That said, not everyone has this severe a reaction, and you may also find that a lower dose remains consistently effective for you. Many people that take Metformin for diabetes also find the side effects intolerable but many more only have diarrhea in the beginning and some not at all.

I definitely lost weight - partly due to just not being bothered about eating and when I did I quickly became full. But the constant diarrhea would have also had an effect. All in all though, until you try it and see how your body responds you are not going to know for sure how you will get on with it.

My two pence worth would be to consider trying it when you can be home for a few days so if you react adversely at least you are in the comfort of your own home and close to a toilet. Have some things in for diarrhea and tummy upset (some people experience nausea initially) and don't be tempted to skip doses because you feel bad. Be prepared with a blander/lighter diet for the first week or two as you try to adjust to it.

Fingers crossed you are one of the people who don't have side effects but if you do, at least you will be equipped to deal with them.
