Hi, I was diagnosed with PCOS after trying to conceive for a long time. I went to a private clinic for to fertility treatment and it was successful and now I have a 9month baby. As part of the treatment I was given metformin to help my symptoms and it really helped. Should I go back on it? Does taking metformin have any bad effects long term?
Thank you

I've been on and off metformin for the best part of 20yrs.
Im not aware of any long term term issues with taking it, it's really a diabetes medication and as we're at higher risk of developing diabetes, I've always been given the impression that it's actually a good idea to take long term!
I remember being told at the start of my IVF journey that pregnancy often 'kick starts' your body and reverses a lot of our PCOS symptoms, but that wasn't the case for me, I would still go up to around 2 years between periods. I don't remember the metformin ever really making much difference to the frequency for me, it more so helps with weight loss/control, excess hair and mood swings, although my husband would probably disagree with that one!
