Hi everyone. I am 23 years old and this is my first time to post for some advice. I am a international student here and this year has brought me a lot of pressure from studying. I stay up late and easy to get annoyed during this year. Then problem comes: recently I am planning to do some sports and i have kept for 2 weeks. But it just start to bleeding. The last time of my period is 11th to 17th this month. But it started bleeding very small amount of blood from 23th this month till now. I have seen doctor two years ago and the result shows there is a PCOS problem with me. Before this time, although some time it bleeding, I could just see some pink color when i wipe with tissue and last for only one to two days. But now it bleed for 7 days and have some brown color and blood color together. The doctor only suggest me to observe for a month but I am feeling very anxious about that...Do I need to do some other inspection? Is there any inspection of ovary for female patients who dont have any sexual experience? Thanks a a lot! I am waiting for your advice!

Hi Kathy - My daughter is 16 she had an ultra sound on her ovaries to see if she had cysts on them. She doesn't but she does have pcos through a confimed blood test

I had an ultrasound when i was first diagnosed at 19 and the lady only did the ultrasound on my lower stomach. They don't do the internal one if you aren't sexually active. Don't worry i was scared and worried too but i asked questions. It's always ok to ask questions. I'm 20 now and still stuggling with PCOS. Hope this helps💜

Oh, brown is old blood, it's normal if you haven't had a period in a while. I get it all the time when my cycle decides to kick up.

You can get an ultrasound to look at your ovaries. You don't have to take an internal ultrasound if you don't want to. They might ask and you can refuse. Patient choice is a thing here, from one international to another. Be firm, be insistent, ask them questions.

Ask if there's a pill that can regulate your periods if you are worried about it. Unfortunately, stress and bad diet can lead to increasing symptoms of PCOS. I was also in college when I started exhibiting signs.

The periods you are getting now sound more normal to me - my period is usually about 5 days and is red and brown blood with some clots. With pcos your periods can change especially if you exercise or put on weight so it can vary. If you are bleeding for longer than 7 days then you should follow up with a doctor as it can be quite draining if you have too long a period. Symptoms change over the years as well as you get older. I found I got hairier as I got older and was more difficult to maintain my weight mid 20s compared to early 20s.

Stress can hugely affect periods as well (not pcos related really) so keep up the exercise to try and combat the stress as it will help.
