I am 16 and have not had a period since last August, Its been over 2 years since I started my period and ever since I started I have had irregular periods. My mum had PCOS so I am just wondering if that can be passed down? What should I do? I have been to the doctors about it a year ago and they said it was normal for the period to be irregular in the first year, but now I am worried about it
No period for 4 almost 5 months - PCOS UK (Verity)
No period for 4 almost 5 months
It can be genetic and passed down through family. It's taken me years to be diagnosed and kept being told the same. Do you have any symptoms
Youy need to have a period at least once in 3 months for uterine health. Youy need to talk to your gyno about pcos and at least get tested given the irregularity and family history. Also if you have spotty skin and/or facial hair (hirsutism) or have extra weight at all those are indicators that docs look for as well.
Yes it is thought to be hereditary. Make sure you have 4 periods a year to keep your uterus healthy, they can give you something to force a bleed as well. I went on the combined pill when I was 15 to regulate them. I take 2-3 months on the trot as it reduces the symptoms further and ensures I have the 4 periods a year.
