Diagnosed with PCOS help?

I'm new here, so basically i'm 17 and have always had heavy periods but just before Christmas 2016 they stopped i'm not sexually active so had no reasons to believe I was pregnant.

I got a doctor's appointment a few months ago described my symptoms

weight gain, depression, no periods, hair loss etc

was sent for an ultrascan and bloods.

Ultrascan showed follicles on my ovaries.

Got a call from the doctor asking me to come in.

Went in and tbh he wasnt all that much help just handed me a couple leaflets about going on the pill and said it's best to go on the pill or go on the coil.

The pill leaflets he gave me are called

Combined pill

The progestogen only pill.

Or obviously the coil

I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on diet, which would be the best option for helping to regulate periods, and anything else than can help with the symptoms I also get pain on my right and left side which can be a dull throbbing pain or a sharp stabbing pain.

Thanks

The combined pill will control the pcos symptoms, it should not cause weight gain so if it does then change to a different sort (I am on yasmin which is great), for me it makes it much easier to lose weight as well which is a plus. The pop pill does nothing for pcos, do not have the depo injections or implant as they make the symptoms worse generally. It is really important to make sure you have 4 periods a year to keep your uterus healthy, which the combined pill will help with. I take 2-3 months on the trot of the combined pill as it reduces the symptoms even further.

Sadly 25 or so years ago when I was diagnosed I was told I had pcos and that was it so it hasnt changed much, you are really left to it (which was why Verity was created) .... Diet wise low GI so cut out all white carbs as they are the route of all evil in my opinion where pcos is concerned.

If/when you decide you do want a family, if you are on the combined pill you increase your chances of getting pregnant quicker as your body is less pcos too. Some ladies have no issues getting pregnant, some need more help but it is extremely rare not to conceive just because of pcos.
