Hi I had Letrozole for 6 months and conceived on my last cycle that I was allowed it. I was also taking Metformin and tracking ovulation.

The big difference for me the last cycle was that I started the Kym Campbell PCOS diet. I’ve recently stopped breastfeeding and trying the diet again now to see if I can get my periods back naturally.

My experience was I think Letrozole gets you to ovulate but doesn’t create a ‘habital’ environment. The low carb diet plus metformin creates the habital environment.

I had a pregnancy and miscarriage a year before conceiving it was awful so sorry you went through that as well.

I also recommend getting your tubes flushed as soon as possible because if you have got any blockages then you don’t want to use up your Letrozole tries with blockages if that makes sense. I had the hycosy done it isn’t pleasant but worth it.

Hello. I’m so sorry to hear about your loss.

I was on letrozole for six months and didn’t get pregnant. I then took a three month break and my periods continued naturally (pre-letrozole I had no periods at all). I got pregnant naturally during that break. I think for me the letrozole may have kickstarted my cycle, but who knows, perhaps it would have come back on its own anyway. I found fertility treatment quite stressful which I’m sure wasn’t conducive to conceiving. Having a break meant I was more relaxed and (I think) in a better position to get pregnant.

I know these things vary by NHS trust, but in my case the consultant was happy for me to have a break and then do six more months of letrozole treatment. It might be worth discussing whether that’s an option for you, as it may put your mind at rest knowing what the plan is if letrozole doesn’t work first time round

Like Eileen200800 , I did the HyCoSy scan, in my case it was a prerequisite before the hospital would start any other treatment. It was unpleasant but not too bad. I agree that it is worth getting just to rule out any other issues. My advice is to bring someone with you and get them to wait outside with a big bar of chocolate!

Where my experience is different from Eileen200800 is that neither metformin nor diet changes ever made any difference for me, and tbh may have made things worse, as again they caused stress (metformin takes a bit of getting used to and the food stuff sent me down a bit of a disordered eating path - I’m already a vegan, so stripping out carbs and soy left my diet very restricted). They work for lots of people, so I’m def not saying don’t try them! But I just wanted to share that they didn’t work for me.

Be kind to yourself during this time, it’s tough and draining, physically and emotionally. Wishing you the very best of luck!
