It is not something I experienced in steroids but it was a symptom I had when my WG was active and at its worest. I would see the consultant about it. It may be a issue.
High doses of both oral and IV steroids have been suggested as the most likely cause for me developing cataracts and a serous retinopathy (a permanently damaged 'spot' on the retina which causes a blurry patch in my eyesight of one eye). I suggest you seek attention with your consultant immediately.
I had both my cataract done last year, they saiid it would most probably have happened later,That the steriods had just brought things forward.
it is something i have never regreted having done .The results brillant . Each op only took 15/20 minutes and I had them done four weeks apart.
I had worn glasses all the time for 50 yrs Now only have a standard prescription glasses for reading,Before glasses that had complex lenes did not help.
I have just had cataracts done in both eyes having taken steroids for 25 years (I'm only 56 so it's premature!). My newly implanted lenses are set for distance vision. My Consultant didn't recommend mutli-focal implants due to my previous eye problems with my WG (Scleritis etc.) I'm not really sure why.
Brilliant mostly but I am left with some blurriness in one eye. My consultant tells me that about 25% of patients develop cloudiness around the new lens and that this often resolves itself. Failing that, it can be cleared in 5 minutes using what I am told is a YAG laser. I'm going to give it a couple of months.
In the past, i had been told it wasn't a great idea to have an eye test while steroid doses were being changed. Much better with no steroids (I wish) or a low, stable dose.
Anyway, a huge improvement as I can now drive without glasses.
Very easy procedure with minimal risk and once it's done it's done!
Prior to being diagnosed with Microscopic Polyangitis Vasculitis about 18 months ago I was told that I had early signs of cataracts in both eyes. After a year of steroids the cataract growth had accellerated to the point where my vision was only just legal for driving.
I went to a great consultant at Moorfields(privately as I was a bit alarmed and wanted it checked out ASAP) who suggested interocular lens replacement.
I had this done in November and it has been wonderful.I had worn glasses since childhood and have been able to give them away.It seems like some sort of compensation for all the bad stuff I have had to go through with MPV
Your vision problems may not be cataracts but you should certainly get checked out by a specialist asap. They can also check for a condition known as angle closure at the same time which can also be accentuated by steroids.
Yes I too developed a cateract as a result of taking steroids, the symptoms of which came on really quickly. I had perfect vision before and then everything looked like I was looking through a cloud and reading on the computer screen with the light behind became blurred whereas reading on a page wasn't too bad. Other medications can also cause eye damage, hydroxichloroquine is one. As soon I told my doctor I was at an eye specialist in a few days.

I would agree with everyone and get it checked out. I had a similar problem to Martin, in that I developed a small hole in the macula of one eye as a result of high doses of steroids, although fortunately I haven't developed cataracts however I do have my eyes tested yearly. Sylvia
I had cateracts 'done' about three years ago......No trouble since!! 'They' say the careacts were caused by 'medication' although 'they' didn't specify which one(es).
I had lens replacement surgery in both eyes about 9 years ago. I have saddle nose and could not keep glasses on as it was too painful. from very short sighted to slight reading lenses - great!
recently my vision in my left eye is poor, my optician has arranged an assessment at the eye hosp for me on 2nd aug. It'll probably need just clearing with a laser just as did my right eye 3 years ago.
I have had several times recently when I couldn't see well with either eye, hopefully the eye hosp will sort me out.
Please see someone about it as any changes are important to check out.
I did aee an optician earlier in the year and they said the sliding in and out of focus was muscular relaxation to the steroids but it has worsened siginificantly especially close up.
I have to open my eyes really wide to see words on my screen.....even with my glasses...
I will make an appointment to see my opticion and ask my consultants on the 24th.
