shingles

hi looks like my OH has shingles. He has an appointment with GP for antivirals tomorrow morning. Feeling fatigued and generally unwell.

Should he continue with MMF or stop until he feels better like with other infections?

Any help greatly received thank you

I read somewhere there is a one in four chance of getting shingles in your life, which is an awful lot of people!

Yes I read that as well. He has had both vaccines so was hoping he could have avoided it

Oh dear Main1234 I do sympathise. Any advice I can give you is what I have been told when I have had infections (not Shingles but Covid and other viruses) is “don’t stop taking medications unless you are told to” has he any other symptoms like itching or sickness / Diarrhoea? Maybe because he has had the vaccines it won’t affect him too badly. Keep us posted take care and my thoughts are with you. Nick.

Thank you Nick. It’s like 2 steps backwards as he was doing so well , running and cycling. As you say hopefully it will be a mild dose. Concerning as near his eye.

Well the only further advice from me is although it’s probably near impossible at the minute try and do some form of exercise. I am sure the Anti virals will help. Another tip that I was told when I got Antivirals when I had was when I asked if I could still exercise during those 5 days the NHS Doctor said absolutely! Tone it down a little but exercise improves circulation and that is a good friend of antivirals. Take care. Nick.

So sorry to hear about your husband’s shingles, it can make a person feel so miserable. Hopefully the antivirals will lessen the impact. When I got it, I was advised to stop the MMF until the rash had gone and I was feeling better so I put them on hold for three weeks, though with any luck your husband won’t be as poorly for as long as I was. I cross my fingers for him and wish him all the best.

saw nurse this morning and prescribed antivirals. Referred to eye hospital to have eyes checked out, prescribed antibiotic cream. All in all a good service once we got past the receptionist. Onwards and upwards.
