Bladder irritation after cyclophosphamide.

I was diagnosed with GPA vasculitis in 2016 and given two doses of cyclophosphamide.I was given Mesna tablets at the same time to protect the bladder as this was a known side effect of the treatment. Unfortunately after the second dose I became extremely ill very quickly and suffered vomiting which probably meant the Mesna tablets never got to do their job. Now, each morning I wake up so desperate to pee I can barely get to the bathroom. I have no trouble in the day time only on waking. Does anyone else share this problem?

I had cyclophosphamide as part of my treatment for Breast cancer. We were strongly advised to have a glass or two of lemon juice whilst it was being infused, to counteract the affect on the bladder. I know this doesn't help you now, but maybe you could wear an incontinence pad in bed so that in the morning you would have a better chance of reaching the bathroom before urinating.

Hi, I have GPA and had 9 cycles of cyclophosphamide, since then I have had constant bladder issues. I need the toilet more, can’t hold myself and like you when I need to go I have to get to the toilet quickly. I feel constantly bloated as well and I am constantly getting infections. I have mentioned this, but the doctors have not really been interested, so am just living with it. I also had the Mensa tablets, but it’s not been right since.

Get it checked out asap. This might sound worrying but cyclophosphamide increases your risk of bladder cancer. Also it could be something like steroid induced diabetes or diabetes a very common illness. Hope that it resolves soon.
