Hi, I have LVV GCA diagnosed by PET scan in November 2018. Same scan also showed a large goitre. I knew had one but not 'large'. Recently it has been growing again, I can feel it and GP agrees.
I have had TFT showing a lowish TSH but more importantly I tick many of the boxes for Graves disease. My GP who has been great until now has in this case dismissed any future investigation as last test the TSH was just touching the low end of normal. She could be absolutely right as i am going through a period of being anxious, (which is also a symptom).
My question is whether I could have a second autoimmune disease whilst still on steroids (9mg) and methotrexate (20mg)? I have had a goitre for about 40 years, maybe longer.
What do people think?
Thanks

Absolutely. Unfortunately one can have many autoimmune diseases. I had PMR for 6 years when I was diagnosed with GCA then 6 months later Graves’ disease (hyperthyroid). It was all so confusing as I thought the jitteriness, rapid heart rate and inability to sleep was due to the GCA or the Pred. Once it was sorted and controlled with medication I felt sooo much better! I wondered if the GCA may have contributed to the Graves’ disease tho my doc said unlikely.
