can u take kefir a probotic drink
I can't think of any reason why not. You can also get probiotic capsules which provide a better supply of good flora.
I take my meds with Kifer every am. It coats my stomach so the pills don't upset it as much as taking them all with water. It's good for you in a lot of ways (good calcium source) and has become about the only thing that doesn't upset my stomach. My GP is the one who recommended Kifer in the first place.
you can buy it on the internet, my bro my brother has severe problems with his bowels and bladder ibs leaky gut plus other things, he has been on 3 antibiotics per day for years. since taking kefir last week he has been able to cut down on his antibiotics to one a day. and normally his penis stings every day for years - that has gone - it is fantastic . it is supposed to heal a leaky gut - some notes on the internet blame a leaky gut for the cause of autoimmune diseases. reuad about it in this months What the doctors dont tell you. thanks for yourhelp xxxx
I'm located in the States. State of Illinois. You can buy Kefir with active probiotic in any grocery store. There is great variety of it in health food stores and in your regular grocery store as well. Gluten-free seems to be the other new food they are all stocking and promoting. I cannot comment on the gluten free stuff as I have not tried that diet, but I'm all for kefir. It's practically a meal in itself it's so filling.
I would caution you not to believe everything you read on the internet about it or anything. Believe what is backed up by clinical studies and reputable research laboratories. I have never heard of probiotics "healing" a leaky gut. Only that it can help some patients.
However, if you live in a rural area, perhaps making it yourself would be best. At least you could be certain of its content. Good luck.
Sorry Berkshirebird, for how long this answer took. Kefir is a thinned yogurt with active live culture. It's thinned but to the consistency of a malt or milk shake. Great for calcium too. It is the "active live culture" that is the good stuff to help your stomach. You can buy it in pill form from a pharmacist, or health food professional, but it's expensive. My hospital actually has a health food store in it. I go there because I can be certain of the credentials of the "health food professionals". It's actually a category in itself here. Homeopathic Medicine usually includes health food, yoga, many mind/body therapies. Please forgive the lateness of this answer.

Thanks for your reply Canary Diamond. Here in the UK there is a registry for people who offer Kefir grains for free. It's usually because they have too many themselves and so kindly offer them to others.
I picked some up today and hope to be making my own Kefir ASAP!
