I lost 60% of the vision in my left eye back in January '13, because the eye is trying to work it gets tired very quickly; does anyone on here who has partial sight in one eye - the other eye works fine at the moment - have any ideas on how to stop the damaged eye from hurting; other than wearing an eye patch

If an eye patch works, use it! I get a painful eye too and have tried various drops ointments etc. to no avail. Sunglasses when outside help a bit. I've got Churg Strauss syndrome which isnt known for doing things to the eyes, but my R eye suddenly went fuzzy a coupla years ago and it's been a bit weak and often feels like a bit of grit behind the eye ever since.
I don't want to be a 'scare monger' but my vasculitis started with problems in my left eye. Indeed any redness, in this eye, is a sure sign that it is potentially active again. I'm probably being an 'old grannie' but would you have yourself checked over- just for me please?
Thanks for being an "old granny" for me; my left ear started being painful again today, so I contacted Addenbrooke's and they want my GP to run a inflammatory markers blood test - ESR plus ?TLC, that might be wrong - and she wants the results on Friday! Anyway contacted the surgery and to cut a long story short am having the tests tomorrow; any idea what the normal readings might be on the ESR & ??
I'm glad that you are being checked out; sorry but I have no idea what a good ESR result is- actually no idea quite what ESR is! (Perhaps I do but under a different name- this 'happens' some times). Anyway please do let me, us all, know how you get on will you?
ESR = erythrocyte sedimentation rate - the blood nurse at my GP's takes your blood and lets it stand for a set time (or sends it to the hospital where they do it automatically), they then check how big the pile of erythrocytes is settled in the bottom of the test tube. Tells them what the level of inflammation, which affects the clotting factors in your blood is I think. Gives a number, normal is up to about 20 mm per hour, autoimmnune illnesses can send it soaring to >100 mm / hour. So lower is better. Hope Sima1952's is low!
Hi Sima I had pain in my left eye and down the side of my nose , went on for a couple of months , ruled out sinusitis etc, found out I have Scelitis and I'm now under an eye consultant . Strangely it used to be worse when I was in bed.they say its now inactive but I still get the odd twinge . My WG consultant has given me Gabapentin , this works well for me. I'm lucky as it did not reach the lens or behind the eye
