Tramadol is a painkiller used to treat moderate or severe pain. It comes in normal and slow-release capsules and is sometimes prescribed for pain after surgery. It is an ‘opioid’, a similar family of drugs to ‘opiates’ like morphine. It can be habit-forming so its use should always be monitored closely by a doctor.
