I have had 2 operations on my spine. Both worked although neither totally removed the pain. If they had I would not be taking so many strong painkillers! However, given my age (77) I am doing pretty well - especially considering what I have been through. I am still able to drive but am no longer able to walk more than a short distance and use a mobility scooter if I need to walk more than a very short distance, which I find difficult as I used to love walking for pleasure. Sometimes I think I would like to push myself harder - but I am aware that it would worry my husband so I don’t.
I really dislike the constraints these problems have imposed on me (and especially my family). In fact that’s probably the worst aspect of it all in many ways.
I hope and pray that you find some means of relief.
Thanks for your reply. So was it worth you having the operation? If you still need strong pain killers or did you get better mobility
I do still need strong painkillers, but in general I do have more mobility. I had the surgeries years ago and I still have to take strong pain medication but I don’t believe I needed as much in the earlier post-op years. But I’m now 77 and that’s obviously part of the current situation. I am glad I opted for the surgeries as my quality of life was definitely improved. You do need the best possible surgeon for the best possible outcome.
You are so right about needing the best surgeon. This I think is my problem, I have been passed from one Consultant to another and the first one said it was TOS and the other two consultants did not agree. Then went back to the start and the first consultant could not believe I was back with him 3 years later with the same problem.
Anyway it’s a big operation I am seventy now and I am thinking maybe I can live with the pain as long as I have the medication. I have already had a radical neck dissection on my left side of my neck ( most of my neck taken away so if they operate on my right neck shoulder and it does not go to plan? Anyway I have gone on and on I am boring myself

Labby 1955: I had excellent luck with Tramadol but had to stop when I started taking a "benzo" for sleep behavior disorder a few years back.Best I can offer is give it a try and see how you do. Affects folks in different ways. Good luck. Shadow Person.
