CONSTIPATION WITH TRAMADOL

ruthmunby profile image
29 Replies

My partner lives with severe pain. Previously maximum dose of tramadol eased this but he couldn’t cope with the extreme constipation.

He is now so desperate he has resorted to tramadol again but at a lower dose. He wants to take something in anticipation of the constipation, maybe starting with something natural such as syrup of figs.

Does anyone have any advice please.

Hi there,None of us are allowed to give any kind of medical advice or advice regarding medication. Your partner would be better going to his GP. If anyone IS giving advice on this forum then they really should know better as it is not allowed. PLEASE do not take advice from anyone here as a medicine may suit one person but not another. Also thete may be side effects or I terrapins with other prescription medications

Thanks, point taken but I think it’s still useful to know about other people’s experiences before he sees his GP. However I’m intrigued by the terrapins 🐢

I agree, however…Few doctors will suggest natural remedies, and go straight to medicines. They simply don’t get much training in medical school. It helps to know what’s working for others, e.g. prunes or other natural supplements.

Laxido laxatives and Leicarbon suppositories do it for me. I am taking 25mg Oxycodone daily resulting in chronic constipation but all Opiates cause this condition.

Not all opiates do. It dependends how each individual reacts to them. I've been on co codamol for years and no constipation

Hi ,your partner could also try flaxseed in his diet, sprinkled into porridge, yogurt etc. He must make sure he drinks plenty of water, you’ll have to look online to find quantities and then it may be a little trial and error, to help he’s constipation. Laxido is usually prescribed for opioid constipation by GPS, so he could ask his surgery or pharmacist about laxatives to help, which would be the most sensible way to go .

a very safe effective one is Movicol. It can be bought otc but if the opiate is prescribed by GP then he can put the movicol onto the prescription. Its one that is often prescribed for the common problem that the opiate can cause.

I just have to say this. Please always ask your prescribing medical pros bc mine told me to be careful with non regulated supplements bc they could interfere with some medications. As for food nothing was mentioned.

Best stuff is OxyPowder...a form of magnesium oxide. I got it on Amazon. Works well. I used to take it with Tramadol, kept everything moving.
