Hi just had my blood tests back TSH is 11.7 and T4 is 10.3 so I hope they will increase the armour but it gives a level of 5.1 (3.5 - 5.0) for potassium what does this indicate it was normal last time? the serum alkaline phosphatase is low as it was before, any help would be appreciated karen

Hi there, my potassium is 5.4 , not sure what this indicates, but believe we shouldnt have elevated potassium, not sure about S A P, somebody posted a link, which was very informative, if you look at my recent questions, there is a link somebody directed me to.

good luck let me no, if you find out anything. x

When you give your blood test results it makes it easier if you also include the ranges, as you have done for your potassium.

I can't answer your question re Potassium but someone will know.

Hi It is very important to have Potassium in range as together with sodium, calcium and magnesium they are the main electrolytes. They must all be in range always. So if taking D, fine if calcium in range. My phosphatase always low, not significant.,Potassium too high can cause acute kidney failure, coma and death, if not found quickly and treated in hospitlal. too low cardiac arrest. What are your other U`s and E`s like? Especially sodium and GFR, if GFR below 60 may indicate a slight renal problem. If dehydrated Potassium is high, drink loads of water, but watch the sodium as that can then go too low not as dangerous but needs to be in range. Are you taking any Magnesium? Fine n food but any other way normally pushes Potassium up, dangerous without blood tests and magnesium on a script. I often have my bloods U`s and E`s and separate magnesium done daily, on treatment , always weekly.I hope this gives you some ideas. If none of this applies check you are not eating a lot of food with Potassium in, WEB.

Merissa, Glad you asked. U`s and E`s are kidney function blood tests, but actually very important for lots of things. Usually the starting point for tests. There are quite a few U`s and E`, all done together The most important being sodium ( salt) and Potassium. Also the GFR which does not have a range but good if over 60 or higher. low not good, when I am in acute renal failure mine is 25!. This is the most significant result for kidney function.

Best wishes.

thanks for the answer, everything else is fine I think the other results aren't on the computer yet they are with the doctor his not available to lwednesday, yes I have been taking magnesium having epson baths hoping it would prevent the migraines I do eat magnesium foods although no bananas. I do feel dehydrated my skin is peeling really bad thought it was the central heating, thanks for the advice will be drinking lots of water and stopping the pills until I see my doctor, i was worried as i looked at a few websites, i have already had an ecg they couldn't find anything but my pulse is really odd sometimes really low sometimes high abit like the blood pressure was thinking I had addisons am really struggling feel abit high and low I am sometimes confused and aggressive and feeling quite odd, I am sure my doctor will sort me out if just he is only part time and I will only see him as I trust him. But at least I now know the cause, thought I was helping although haven't had a migraine so well pleased

Hi Magnesium in food is fine as the body deals with it and not like supplements etc.You are right it does help migraine but can be so dangerous to the heart.Definitely you sound dehydrated Also ECG pretty useless, you need to check pulse ( HR ) regularly Check if it is always even. If not , ie swings at times , Then you need a Holter ,24 hour or better 7 day tiny ECG`s. If a problem you also need an echo. If you have an uneven beat , it is usually now and again, then you need to see a specialised arrythmia cardio, large teaching hospitals. A lot of docs . and cardios not very informed about the potassium and magnesium connection , nor in fact the electrolytes in general

Best wishes,

Jackie

Hi Drinking enough helps migraine too, do you know it is now classified as auto immune,? interesting! One of the good things about being old I no longer have them. Daughter and one grand daughter have bad ones. daughter finds taking Feverfew every day, tablets helps amazingly. It is quite hard to find now, rules! but she gets it Ok on the web, not expensive. My granddaughter , years ago at GOSH was given calcium channel blockers for hers and her Raynaulds, It only helps a little. Daughter and i do not take anything for that. I had calcium channel blockers for a while as one of my numerous cardiac drugs, I did not like them, Vicky finds them OK

Best wishes,

Jackie .

thank you it has been mentioned about drinking water may help, although once the migraine comes I will be sick and can't keep anything down, I have grown feverfew its quite pretty but smelly and its abit like a weed you can't get rid of it, I have tried it but only when I had the migraine not as a preventative so will try it luckily haven't had one for 2 months which a miracle I have had clusters for twenty years since I started on thyroxine I now take armour will be interested too see whether I am cured. thanks jackie for taking the time too get back to me karen
