The coil
I don't know if it affects your thyroid, but I'm pretty sure it affects your sex hormones and iron levels.
I had mine removed at the end of five years - and was under a not insignificant amount of pressure to have another. The NHS hates it when, horror of horrors, women are left fertile because they don't have any birth control.
I went from six days of really heavy bleeding down to two from one period to the next.
It also messed with my cycles, giving me one short and then one long as things readjusted back to where they should have been timing wise. So clearly it does affect hormones, even though it's "just" copper and is a supposedly non-hormonal method of contraception.
It's your body. Have it removed if you want to. I'm so glad I got rid of mine.
Not that I know of and i clearly don't see the point of keeping it in until you had a dose increase how is that even remotely related, ridiculous!
See if you can see another gp in the surgery or nurse that will take it out for you if you want it out now.
I had the marina coil and had it removed last year. Within a month I noticed a huge improvement in my symptoms. After I looked up the side effects online and found that they mimic hypothyroidism. You can get it removed at most sexual health clinics and don't have to keep it just becaue your gp says so. Its your body and shouldn't be forced to keep something especially when it needs to come out.
Thats what iv got tryed to tell her that i thought the coil was making me feel worse thanks for the input will tell her i want it out.
I don't know if it affects the thyroid but I had horrendous permanent thrush while I had it in which magically cleared up after it was removed.

Hi Flo B
I am having exactly the same problem as you have been to gp twice with a horrible and very uncomfortable rash which she thinks is thrush. Having the coil out next week. Only had it in since mid November. I suppose it suits some women and not others.
