I'm currently suffering alapcia and hair thinning. I was on 150mg of thyroxine and after a blood test I've been reduced to 125mg and I also had a mirena coil in but now had that removed. My iron level was 50 a couple of months ago (taking 2 tablets a day) but now I'm taking iron tablet 3 times a day my reading has dropped to 44. Has anyone suffered similar?
I'm emotionally hurting inside and want my hair back as it was..... I'm desperately trying to find out what is making my hair fall out.
Thanks

Perhaps spend a day reading the posts & replies about all the other cofactors we need to make our thyroid hormones & bodies work better. It only takes one thing out to throw as spanner in the works, & you might need blood tests or trial & error to work out which.
It's also essential that we eat properly & avoid foods that might be causing issues, sometimes those containing gluten. It may not be that for you, but going completely gluten free for 3 months is the only way to be certain.
Thank you I'm trying to be gluten free (it's hard, finding out what i can have as a new gf person) and have cut it out now for a week and a half. As well as cutting down on caffeine.
Welcome to our forum & sorry to hear of your problems.
Long term low thyroid hormone can cause immense problems including hair loss, menstrual issues, iron deficiency and emotional turmoil, and all these issues are common on this forum.
Post any recent blood test results including ranges (numbers in brackets) for members to comment.
Iron and selenium both affect hair. If your iron is low that will probably be causing the hair loss, although any variation in thyroid hormone tends to do it. Your doctors should be trying very hard to find out why you are low in iron. I sympathise because I have had hair problems and it is very upsetting. Hope things improve.
Yes, I can commiserate with you re hair loss. For the past 7 years I've lost hair (Alopecia Areata) and been completely bald all summer and then it has gradually (very gradually) grown back and it is much thinner and have bald patches. I'd prefer it the other way around or - best of all - to have no hair loss whatsever.
When diagnosed with one autoimmune disease we seem to develop more and at present I have three.
