Hi it is repeated on a Wednesday afternoon. Part of a very good long running ( years ) series of programs. So good that all the consultants I know listen to it when they can.

Oh dear, Might be best if they didn't listen to this one.... It was a question and answer question with dr Mark Vanderpump providing answers.

The answers said that hormones and the tsh are measured to give a diagnosis of hypothyroidism... (If only!). He said that 5 % failed to get better on t4 but did not say what could be done, When asked about other meds he gave a brief history of how people used to be treated with sheep thyroid.... There was no mention of t3, no mention of how some people can have a failed d 102 enzyme or how some people could have a pituary gland which gives the wrong tsh, thereby rendering the tsh test useless....

Grrrrrr, let me at 'em.

Why dont' they invite someone who hasn't got well. Does Dr V just send the failures back to the GP? The answer I would think is 'YES'.

Could we write to someone at the BBC responsible for the programme?

Jackie,

Galathea, can you please clarify the failed enzyme 102 bit for me. Is it the enzyme involved in T4 to T3 conversion?

As they were talking about dementia and hypothyroidism in the same programme, it's a pity they didn't make the connection and talk about how hypo can cause memory problems and other problems with the brain. I wonder just how many people are diagnosed with Alzheimer's and other mental problems when they just needed a dose of thyroid hormone. I've seen so many programmes on tv about these things where the patient in question has no eyebrows!

But, apart from that, yes, just towing the party line, no real information - and a teeny weeny bit of misinformation perhaps? Just enough to keep us in our places!

You can also record radio 4 through TV on channel 704

Hi all,

I've just listened to the Mark Vanderpump interview on iplayer and although I can see why some of you are a little irate about him not going into detail about the treatment, it wasn't really an in depth interview! He was given about 5 minutes air time and as we all know most of us couldn't even recite our SYMPTOMS In five minutes!! If you want to know why I am in support of this endo you should private message me!!!!!

Xx
